Good read on gun violence and our efforts to reduce it. An overwhelming majority agrees that what’s going on with gun violence isn’t okay, but their voices too often get drowned out by the well-funded beltway NRA who have convinced some that any effort to reduce gun violence will lead to a loss of their Second Amendment rights. Nothing could be further from the truth. I support the Second Amendment. I won’t give up my guns and I’d never ask any law abiding American to give up... theirs. I just want to expand background checks to help keep guns from criminals, domestic abusers and the dangerously mentally ill. We already require background checks in California and it hasn’t impacted people’s right to own a gun. So why can’t we do it nationwide? It won’t stop every tragedy, but it will save some lives.
