"Up to $14 billion worth of council-owned assets across New Zealand - not to mention the costs to central government and private interests - are at risk from sea level rise, according to the first report linking council infrastructure and climate data."
The report by Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ) is the first of its kind, showing how much infrastructure - including water and road infrastructure, buildings and facilities - would be exposed if the sea level rises by 1.5 m...etres.
LGNZ proposed that local government leads a national conversation about how to prepare for rising seas.
Has Geelong and Surf Coast council's prepared a similar report? And if not, ask them: "Why not?"
