Update: As of yesterday afternoon, Tahlequah and family were still carrying the calf. Weather is shifting here today with temps dropping, winds picking up and fog rolling in, so no news yet this morning. As soon as we get word, we will share it with you.
Until then, we wanted to share a special recording. As you know, sound is critical to the orcas. They need quiet waters to be able to effectively communicate with one another, using calls and whistles, as well as to echoloca...te to find salmon and map their underwater environment. Last Sunday, SMRU Consulting & TWM got a recording of Tahlequah, L-87, the J17s and other members of J Pod in a lively "discussion." A minute of the recording is posted on our http://seasound.org page (linked to this message).
