We have followed-up with the EPA, and they indicate they are not seeking any debris samples for testing. They are performing particulate air monitoring as well as air sampling. Air sampling gives them some snapshot idea in time what the smoke plumes contained. At this time, neither NYS DOH nor Erie County Department of Health have requested debris testing. However, the Erie County Health Department did provide a statement regarding how the public should handle the fine soot. Below is the link
When cleaning up the debris, it is highly recommended you wear gloves to pick up, bag and dispose of the material. More information on cleanup can be found in the Health Department Link.
