On January 5, 2024, at approximately 1:45 P.M., the Vallejo Police Department received a call for service regarding a strong-arm robbery on the 600 block of Broadway St. While this incident was in progress, vigilant community members reported to our dispatcher that they observed a male approach a female, then violently snatch her purse off her arm. The callers followed the robber until he disappeared near the 700 block of Illinois St.
Thankfully, the caller provided our dispa...tchers with a detailed description of the thief and his last known location.
Our officers quickly saturated the area by establishing a perimeter at the listed location. With the assistance of the California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Air Operation Unit, our officers were able to locate the suspect, who was literally hiding in a doghouse at the rear of a residence on the 700 block of Illinois St.
The suspect was arrested and booked into the county jail. Our officers recovered the victim’s purse and returned it to her. Fortunately, nobody was injured during this robbery, and the victim retrieved all her stolen property.
