Meet Dale. He's a Super Hero along with his young nephew, Jayden, who came to the aid of a Blue Tongue Lizard in the bottom of his salt water swimming pool this afternoon.
After diving into the deep end to rescue the bluey, Dale quickly came to the conclusion the lifeless body of this poor little chap meant he was too late.
Taking up a garden spade he dug a hole to bury the bluey in. Carefully picking up the drowned Lizard he thought for a fleeting moment he felt a slight mov...ement in its body.
Quick thinking Dale inverted the lizard tipping hid head down towards the floor and drained as much water out of him as he could and hoping it would be enough to revive him.
What Dale and Jayden did next was extraordinary- they performed gentle CPR on the Blue Tongue. Checking on him, Dale realised the blueys eyes were flickering and starting to open. After what probably felt like a lifetime, the Lizard, now called Dusty, started to look around and that's when Dale called us in. He kept Dusty warm until one of our amazingly dedicated volunteers, Kai, picked him up and took him to Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital.
Dusty is in care at AZWH on a nebuliser.
We are all keeping our finger crossed that he gets well and can be released back to the wild.
Thanks to Dale, Dusty now has a chance.
