In the midst of all that is going on concerning police-community relations, I think we should recognize Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo, and acknowledge how fortunate Houston is to have a police chief who serves with compassion, empathy, and integrity.

This man is the personification of what it means to community police. This man truly cares deeply about this city and its people.

While on the streets as protesters demanded justice for George Floyd, Chief Acevedo approach...ed one of the organizers--even after they had already damaged an HPD patrol vehicle-- and told them, "We are going to march together. Which way do you want to go? Let's do this together, safely. I will make sure my officers clear a path for your march and I will go with you. I am not going home tonight until every single person who wants to exercise their First Amendment rights has the opportunity to do so.”
