Projects here in our village have been happening! A couple of our neighbors planted some free-to-them apple trees along the pathway into our meadow which leads to the woods at the edge of our property. The expanse of the entire trail around the border of our property is very exposed - no windbreaks, minimal visual /variation interest.
In the heat of summer, dogs and humans alike have a hard time with the hot sun and no shady shelter .. in the harsh gusty winter, there is no …protection from the wind.
These apples bring in the concept of “seventh generation”: we will not benefit from the fruits of our labor and vision (considering the speed of growth of plantings to the speed of aging for us humans) but future homeowners will! This corridor has some saplings already making a go of it and there is a request to leave them there to add to the eventual hedgerow. The existing hedgerow going through part of the center of our land already creates a windbreak, wildlife corridor and a new path mowed along its northern edge creates a wonderful, shady diversion from the perimeter path in the morning!
