You may have seen my happy head on Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year yesterday evening. If you're thinking of applying to be on, go for it. It's a brilliant day out. The staff are absolutely brilliant, so obliging and supportive. The judges are lovely and being able to meet some amazing artists was fantastic. Our sitter was the amazing Reece Clark @reececlarke_ , principle dancer with the Royal Ballet. He's a down to earth, friendly and insanely talented man.
I didn'…t do Reece justice at all. I was fairly nervous and it took its toll.
The portrait in this post was painted after my return to Ireland. A bit of a redemption. The one i made on the programme was fairly dodgy (nerves got to me i assume) Thus redemption portrait took around 6 hours, not the 4. But I went with a much more manageable size, I put his cape back on which I think made for a better result.
