Jerusalem-Prime Minister Honourable Sitiveni Rabuk...a today met with the Prime Minister of the State of Israel, Honourable Benjamin Netanyahu, for a bilateral meeting that further affirmed the longstanding friendship and deepen the cooperation between the two nations.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Rabuka expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome extended to him and his delegation.
The highlight of the visit to the Holy Land, led by Prime Minister Rabuka, is the opening of Fijiβs Embassy in Jerusalem.
The opening of the Embassy underscored Fijiβs commitment to strengthening the diplomatic ties and cooperation with Israel across a broad spectrum of areas that include technology solutions, education, peace and security, disaster resilience, and food security.
The two leaders discussed Fijiβs longstanding contribution to peacekeeping operations in the Middle East, where the Honourable Rabuka reaffirmed Fijiβs commitment to supporting peace and stability in the region, noting that Fiji, though small in size, remain steadfast in its commitment to international peacekeeping.
Further, the two leaders addressed regional and global issues of mutual concerns.
Prime Minister Rabuka also took the opportunity to brief Prime Minister Netanyahu on the Pacific regionβs βOcean of Peace Declarationβ, recently adopted by the Pacific Island Leaders,
which embodies the collective vision for the Blue Pacific Continentβs solidarity and security.
In closing, Prime Minister Rabuka expressed Fijiβs commitment to advancing the FijiβIsrael partnership for the mutual benefit of both countries and in the interest of global peace and stability.
In his response, Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed his sincere appreciation to his Fijian counterpart, for the opening of Fijiβs Embassy in Jerusalem while noting the strong friendship,
faith and shared values between the two nations.
Further, he thanked PM Rabuka for his steadfast support for the State of Israel, reaffirming Israelβs commitment to deepening cooperation with Fiji across areas of mutual interests they
had discussed.
Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed that Israel is a good friend to Fiji, saying "welcome to our house which is your house and the house of the people of Fiji. Welcome home".
