It is with great heartbreak we confirm that all seven children of the Barho family perished in an overnight fire. The children’s father was badly injured trying to rescue the children, and he is in critical condition.
The Barhos arrived in East Hants in September 2017. They had been refugees from the war in Syria, and the H.E.A.R.T. Society sponsored them to come to Canada.
Although the Barho family moved to Spryfield in October, they missed the people of East Hants and pla...nned to move back next week. The four school aged children were really looking forward to returning to their schools, Elmsdale District School and Riverside Education Centre. Many thanks to the people at those schools who made the kids feel so welcome and happy.
Many people, far too many to name, helped bring the Barho family to East Hants and get settled. For the past year and a half, the children have been able to enjoy life as kids should be able to: going to school, riding bicycles, swimming, having friends, running in the yard, celebrating birthday parties and hanging out with the neighbours on their porch swing. They loved every minute of it, and it seems impossible we won’t hear their laughter and feel their hugs again.
All donations in February to the HEART Society will used to support the survivors (link for donations: https://www.chuffed.org/project/heartsocietyns)
