It's August on Svalbard. The snow has melted in the lowlands, so it's actually possible to go hiking, explore mountains and enjoy the amazing scenery. Half way up the hill on Blomstrandhalføya in Kongsfjorden, we spotted a group of Reindeer. They climbed the glacier morrain below us and were unaware of our presence. I told my guests to wait and hold their cameras ready. And then, it actually happened: the largest of the group, a beautiful male, walked out of the shadows of the hill into the amazing scenery of Kongsbreen. By then he saw us, decided he did not like us, and jumped away. A short moment of stunning beauty: and definitely the most scenic reindeer encounter I've ever had! ![]()
