Lago Mar on the Back Bay
umbes 3 aastat tagasi

Two juvenile Humpback Whales washed ashore this morning: the first was close to the Hampton Inn at Corolla. It was found just after midnight by a Currituck County deputy near milepost 5. There were no signs of scavenging or trauma. The second was found south of Sandbridge at Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Ironically, this comes just a day after World Whale Day.

These are the second and third juvenile Humpbacks found dead on the Currituck Banks Peninsula in less than a week. Another was found on February 12th north of Oregon Inlet near Nags Head.

Video of the whale at Back Bay Refuge was sent to WAVY TV by Billy Malbon. A link to the video is in the comments below, along with a photo by Edward Ponton.
