OCALA MAN BROKE INTO HOME WHILE RESIDENTS WERE ASLEEP, SAID HE WAS BEING "CHASED"
In the early morning hours of April 16, 2018, Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies arrested Erick Russell Miller (DOB: 12/14/1986) after he broke into a home located at the 9600th block of SW 32nd Court in Ocala because he was being “chased” by an unknown group of people. Once inside the home, Miller began to arm himself with kitchen knives and displayed other forms of paranoid behavio...r. One of the residents attempted to hold Miller at gunpoint, causing him to flee from the house. He was quickly located and arrested.

A female resident of the home told deputies that she heard noises coming from the living room around 2:00 a.m., Monday morning. She grabbed her gun and approached the suspect, later identified as Miller, and told him not to move. Miller then fled through the front door of the home. The victims said that kitchen knives were scattered throughout the home and that a stack of change (quarters and dimes) were left on the front patio. While deputies were interviewing the victims, neighbors came into contact with a suspicious person just north of the incident location. Deputies responded and made contact with Miller, who had two knives in his possession that were taken during the burglary. Miller admitted to deputies that he broke into the home because he thought people were chasing him. He stated that he removed the change from his pockets on the back patio of the victims' home because the coins were making too much noise. Once he broke into the home, Miller said he drank a bottle of water, gathered weapons to protect himself with and removed all the night lights from the power outlets in order to hide from "the people who were chasing him." He then saw the victim pointing a gun at him and he fled the scene. Miller could not give deputies any names or descriptions of the people who he says were chasing him.

Miller has been charged with Armed Burglary of Dwelling and is being held in the Marion County Jail on $10,000 bond.
