BRINGING AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES(AV) TO YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD

Experts expect #AVs to become part of our life, sooner or later. They disagree over timing, but not its happening. AVs are especially useful to a densely built city like Singapore. That is why we are actively monitoring and testing out AV technology here, working with some of the best brains and technology companies in the world. Safety is primary concern. To gain public trust and confidence, we need to put AVs... to trials in a safe environment, before unleashing them on public roads. That is why we set up the #CETRAN AV Test Centre in #Jurong to allow the technologists to test their products under simulated real life scenarios with pedestrians and diverse weather conditions. We are also planning ahead, as AVs have to go beyond “laboratory” to be tested real life. Town planning will have to be revised to take into account AVs. For this purpose, we have designated 3 towns, #Punggol, #Tengah and the #JurongInnovationDistrict (JID) to be the first to experience LTA’s pilot deployment of AV vehicles for first-last mile connection. This will not happen immediately, only after we are thoroughly convinced of its safety and relevance to our way of life.
