🚨 VEHICLE BURGLARY ALERT 🚨
Between August 3-6, 2023, our detectives were diligently investigating a series of vehicle burglaries in Greenacres. The target? Specifically, Kia and Hyundai vehicles.
On August 6th, persistence paid off. Five juveniles involved in these crimes were apprehended. Earlier that day, they had stolen a gray 2016 Kia Soul. A subsequent hit and run investigation at Pickwick Park led us to the suspects. Three were apprehended on-site, with the other two id...entified shortly after.
In total, these juveniles have cleared five cases by arrest, with more investigations underway.
What drove them? We have strong reasons to believe it’s the Kia and Hyundai TikTok Challenge. This challenge exploits a design flaw in certain Kia (2010-2021) and Hyundai (2015-2021) models, allowing ignition bypass via a USB cable. However, models with push-button ignition aren’t susceptible.
We urge all Kia and Hyundai owners to contact their dealers for software updates or explore other anti-theft solutions.
