🚨 CUT THE GAS TAX AND LOWER MAINE TOLLS 🚨
Today, at a press conference in Falmouth joined by supporters, I called for the State of Maine to immediately cut the gas tax and to lower cost of tolls. We need relief.
High gas prices are hurting Maine families, our Senior Citizens on fixed incomes, and our small businesses. With the cost of food in Maine 13% higher than the rest of the nation, high gas prices also impact the price we pay for groceries.
...I am calling on Mills and the Legislature to provide immediate relief to Mainers at gas pumps by temporarily lowering the Maine Motor Fuel ‘Gas Tax’ by 50% for the next 90 days, before the full tourist season. Additionally, I am calling on the Maine Turnpike Authority to lower all tolls by 50% for the next 90 days.
I have a history of cutting the gas tax. In 2012 I helped repeal the indexing of the Gas Tax, which automatically increased the gas tax every year. This has saved Mainers hundreds of dollars over the last ten years.
Mills, on the other hand, opened the door to increases gas taxes to fund electric vehicle charging stations. This leads to questions on why Mills is catering to the elite, who can afford an electric vehicle, over the great majority of Mainer’s who are struggling to fill their gas tanks
Lowering the gas tax and cutting tolls is the proper way to provide immediate relief for the Maine people.
