ACTION ALERT - We have received numerous credible tips throughout the day about a massive police buildup in Wet’suwet’en territories. We face the real and imminent threat of forcible removal from our own homelands. The state violence brought against Wet’suwet’en people is deeply connected to the violence and destruction of our territories, and the violence against our women.
Many concerned Wet’suwet’en and non-Wet’suwet’en supporters have reached out. We have confirmed repor...ts that several charter bus loads of police arrived at the Prestige Hotel in Smithers, and that individuals unloading had “POLICE” written on their clothing. A group of about 20 out of town police were spotted drinking at a sportsbar in Smithers. Two TAC vehicles were brought into Smithers, and a source was told they were here to deal with the “protest.”
Another source saw 7 RCMP vehicles headed along Highway 16 from Prince George toward Houston. In Houston, an RCMP river boat was spotted, and six RCMP pickups were seen parked with an unmarked paddy wagon at a local motel. A SWAT team was spotted at the 711 gas station in Houston.
When our chiefs met with RCMP yesterday, they were told that a “minimum of 8” officers would be deployed to our territories. What we now face is a full-scale invasion involving bus-loads of trained outside forces.
We are not protesters. We are Wet’suwet’en. We are lawfully and peacefully living on our lands as we have since time immemorial. We call for all that can join us to do so immediately, on our homelands or where you stand.
These lands will always be Wet’suwet’en.
