Gardendale Police officers arrived at 10:52 pm and found a 42-year-old white male suffering from a gunshot wound. Gardendale Fire and Rescue arrived at 10:57 pm and transported victim to UAB Emergency room, early this morning he was pronounced dead.

During the initial investigation we discovered the victim was a police officer with the Vestavia Hills Police Department. We can tell you the incident was domestic in nature. As the investigation is in the early stages and ongoing we can release no further information.
