A note from Chief Davis.
Good morning to all. I wanted to take a brief moment to talk about negative comments and rumors surrounding yesterday’s event.
...The Flomaton Police Department received this information yesterday morning and the school was immediately notified. The Flomaton Police Department took part in the School’s Safety plan prior to school beginning of the school year. The Safety plan worked great and the Faculty, Staff, and Students did an awesome job doing exactly what they were supposed to.
The Flomaton Police Department’s top priority yesterday was to protect all children in the school. The decision was made to put the school on lockdown which consisted of refusing admittance to anyone but law enforcement personnel. As law enforcement worked to ensure the safety of all students and faculty, attempts were made to update parents through social media. Some concern has been voiced regarding this use of social media. Due to the seriousness of the threats received by students and the time sensitive amount of work that had to be done, I feel this was the best mechanism to reach the largest amount of parents in the shortest amount of time.
Parents, I understand your frustration and concern in the wake of the school tragedies in recent years. I want to assure each of you that every law enforcement officer who responded wanted to keep your children safe, and every one of those officers would have laid down their life for your child, and I'm not speaking lightly.
