I’m so mad about Ruth’s death. I’ve seen nurses wade through rivers high enough to reach their chests, just to reach cut off communities. To save our lives, to keep us healthy. They don’t deserve this.

The leaders in that community have questions to answer. A whole community cannot claim to not know the bad apples that reside among them. Somebody knows something.

We are not the police, we have no way of conducting investigations and getting Ruth the justice she is entitled ...to. This is why we have you, the Ghana Police Service

Ruth has been dead since February 3rd, and yet, the police still haven’t managed to gather enough information with which to even assure the public, that this matter is being handled.

If this continues, it’s going to severely dampen the morale of young nurses serving in many remote places. Why should we risk our lives to save others, knowing that if We died in the line of duty, that our deaths would be treated passively and without urgency?

This is not an ultimatum, we are just begging the police. Let us know where you are in the investigations, let Ruth’s people know she hasn’t died in vain, let other rural nurses know they will be safe and protected in such places.

Otherwise, we run the risk of nurses abandoning or refusing postings to such places which will be detrimental to public health.
