This week USACE Tribal Nations Technical Center of Expertise is hosting the Tule Restoration Alliance Workshop in Davis, CA in collaboration with the Sustainable Rivers Program, indigenous partners and Westervelt Ecological Services.

Yesterday, our deputy commander, Lt. Col. Dianna Lively, met with workshop participants and thanked them for their commitments to our ongoing efforts to learn from traditional ecological knowledge and apply those lessons to tule restoration.

The ...tule plant is a cultural keystone species to Tribal communities of the Central Valley of California, the foothills, and even into neighboring regions. Besides using tule for cultural practices, the plant itself in its natural habitat provides many benefits to the ecosystem, such as fish and wildlife habitat, erosion prevention, flood risk reduction, and benefits to water quality.
