HEY EVERYONE.
I just finished the ABC town hall.

I did not get to ask a question, and when I arrived and saw all the families of those who had lost loved ones. Both black victims, including the son of Alton Sterling, Hispanic victims. And white victims...I knew that their voices were most important and I was just incredibly humbled to share space with them in this sacred moment.

...

When I saw Patrisse Khan-Cullors ... I breathed deeply, thinking we can finally have an honest conversation about what it means to affirm one's being with the statement Black Lives Matter.

BECAUSE I KNEW THAT ABC HAD EVERYONE'S QUESTIONS AHEAD OF TODAY...when I saw all these hurting people, I was grateful they would be heard.

BUT THEY WERE NOT HEARD.

The entire town hall was manipulated.

The Lt. Governor of Texas even had the unmitigated gall to have Alton Sterling's son stand with him as he talked about the president's need to support police.

I was seated right behind him. I watched him forge a false connection. Give that child a Texas pin and then manipulate his vulnerability and pain.

I listened to Eric Garner's daughter talk with excitement before the show about how excited she was to know the president wanted to hear her.

I talked with Lezley Head who is facing the upcoming anniversary of the killing of Michael Brown, Jr. And yet made time to be here.

I saw families with photos of fallen officers.

There was only one hour and ALL of these voices deserved to be heard. Most importantly. These voices.

BUT THEY WERE NOT HEARD.

The entire event was orchestrated. Imagine sitting in a room of uncalled pain for 90 minutes...and hearing instead, stories that remind us primarily of how dangerous we are...and of how much we need the police...and of how we all make "mistakes."

Imagine being strategically seated in a room in ways that imply agreement with a narrative that you think is from the pits of hell.

I am beyond angry! And everyone here knows it. It is unconscionable that ABC news station would retraumatize an entire community for ratings.

Extremely disappointed.
