Українець Артем Бараненко отримав особливу відзнаку – Меч найкращого закордонного випускника Королівської академії сухопутних військ Великої Британії в Сандгерсті в цьому році!
Щороку відзнака присуджується курсанту, який продемонстрував найвищі результати у навчанні та під час іспитів. Цього року в Академії навчалось 33 офіцери, які представляли збройні сили 22х різних країн – від Афганістану, Албанії, Азербайджану до України та США.
...Артем – кадет Національної академії сухопутних військ імені гетьмана Петра Сагайдачного та один із 15 українців, які навчались у Сандгерсті (Королівська академія приймає слухачів з України з 1997 року). Він став першим українцем, який удостоївся цієї високої відзнаки в стінах цього закладу.
На цьогорічній випускній церемонії були також присутні батьки Артема, які розділили з ним цей зворушливий момент і не приховували радості та гордості за сина. Їхній візит і навчання Артема стали можливими завдяки підтримці Уряду Великої Британії.
Нагороду українцю вручав заступник Верховного головнокомандувача об'єднаних збройних сил НАТО в Європі, генерал Сер Джеймс Еверард, лицар найпочеснішого ордена Лазні.

Officer Cadet Artem Baranenko has become the first soldier from Ukraine to have the honour of being awarded the highest accolade the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst can bestow upon an overseas cadet, the International Sword.
The International Sword is awarded to the overseas cadet, who by judgement of the Academy’s Commandant, Major General Paul Nanson CBE, is the best of that intake.
Artem Baranenko took top spot from 33 other overseas cadets from 22 different counties underlining just what a global influence the Royal Military Academy extends as a centre of excellence in leadership training.
He received the International Sword at a presentation ceremony held during his commissioning parade known the world over as the Sovereign’s Parade held on the parade square with the iconic backdrop of Old College and its famous portico.
The Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Sir James Everard KCB CB, representing HM The Queen (it being the Sovereign’s Parade) presented the sword in front of thousands in the packed stands including his Mum and Dad. They had been specially flown out from their home near Lviv in western Ukraine arranged through the British Embassy Kyiv to be with their son on this very special day.
