Deeply shocked to hear about the passing of Andrew Weatherall. He was completely unique and original, and helped forge the sound of contemporary dance music, being one of the first producers to fuse dance and rock, making some of the most innovative records of the '90s.

As a teenager I collected his records; Boy's Own, Bocca Juniors, etc, and danced on ecstasy in raves to Primal Scream.

I have very fond memories of meeting Andrew when he shared an office with the first Mo'Wax... press officer. He would give Andrew white labels of early Mo'Wax releases, which he proceeded to play, breaking records like DJ Shadow's InFlux and La Funk Mob's Motor Bass Gets Phunked Up. At the time his influence was massive and it was a major turning point for the label, exposing the records to publications like the NME, and ultimately taking Mo'Wax to the next level.

We DJ'd together countless times over the years, regularly in clubs in places like Glasgow and Dublin, where he was a hero. The last time I played with him was a couple of years ago in Dublin, where the CD console I was about to play on was failing to work, and totally obscure. Being the gentleman he was, he helped rectify the situation, laughing that we would always find ourselves in the most ridiculous DJ situations, but still try to fly the flag. He was kind, an innovator, a DJs DJ, and an extraordinary musicologist.

His influence will last the test of time. Rest in peace. You will be missed and loved.

James
