President Emmerson Mnangagwa has congratulated Frelimo presidential party candidate Daniel Chapo for his “resounding victory” although election results have not yet been officially announced by the Mozambique Electoral Commission. Addressing Zanu PF Politburo members in Harare on Tuesday, Mnangagwa, who is the SADC chairperson, said the ruling Zanu PF is ready to strengthen relations with the president-elect. However, according to Tanzanian leader Samia Suluhu Hassan, chairpe...rson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defense and Security Cooperation, results of the Mozambican elections have not yet been announced. In a statement, Hassan said, “SADC is aware that the Electoral Management Bodies and other relevant institutions are finalizing the election results expected to be released in due course.” Zimbabwe’s ruling Zanu PF has been accused for meddling in electoral processes in South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique and Botswana. The party, which has denied these allegations, has also been fingered in attempts to campaign for former Zambian president Edgar Lungu, ahead of the country’s 2026 general election.
