Last night I spoke on the House Floor about a topic near and dear to my heart, the continued viability, success, and importance of our HBCUs.
As many of you know, the Commonwealth of #Pennsylvania is the proud home of two exceptional HBCUs—Cheyney and Lincoln—and they share the distinction of being the first two HBCUs founded in America!
Among African-Americans, #HBCU graduates make up 40% of the African-American Members of Congress, 40% of engineers, 50% of lawyers, and 80% ...of judges.
In fact, Lincoln University is famous for two of the lions of Black American history, writer Langston Hughes and Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall.
I am so proud of our HBCUs that have produced amazing leaders that not only contribute to their respective fields, but who also pride themselves on making sure the next generation of African Americans succeed.
Join me in celebrating our HBCUs and the critical role they play in the continued strength and stability of our neighborhoods nationwide!
