Toxic masculinity–the way of being a man that requires aggression, sexual domination, earning big money, being athletic, and most definitely, being heterosexual–not only feeds rape culture, but is co-dependent upon it. In fact, rape culture and toxic masculinity feed each other while destroying everything they touch.
The first victim of the embodiment of toxic masculinity is a man's own sense of self. Toxic masculinity begins with the suppression of the full range of emotional experiences, and with denying the experience of pain, sadness, or insecurity. Masculinity needs a detox. We need healthier men.
