The game industry lost a great guy today: David De Martini You may not know his name, but he had a huge impact on the industry across a long and storied career at Electronic Arts and EA Partners, working on projects like Tiger Woods PGA Tour, The Godfather and deals with game companies like Harmonix and Valve. DeMar, who always loved to wear a Kangol, was a frequent guest on my shows. He was a great interview, but above all else was a steadfast supporter of all that I did. H...e loved big ideas and bold business deals. I could always count on him.
A few years ago, when I was in the middle of transitioning out of the TV space and into the world of online, I remember chatting with him at E3. DeMar had just gone through a transition of his own, moving from EA to Oculus VR -- which had just been acquired by Facebook for $2B. We joked about how quickly things can change. "You work your entire life and then one day you just get lucky," I remember him saying with a smile as he walked off. Demar, we wish your luck had kept running a hell of a lot longer.
I thought I'd post a clip of an interview I did with him almost a decade ago (August 2007) to remember the great David De Martini. RIP.
