Among the sea of crosses rest over 9,000 of America’s fallen from World War II.
Over 1,500 who went missing or were lost at sea are honored by name in the Garden of the Missing.
These men and women gave their lives during one of the war’s most defining moments – the Normandy Campaign.
...Before daybreak on D-Day, June 6, 1944, America and its Allies launched the long-awaited invasion along the shores of northern France.
For the next three months, they fought across Normandy – liberating Cherbourg,
breaking out at St. Lô, and forcing the Germans into retreat after the decisive battle of the Falaise Pocket.
Today and every day, their service and sacrifice are honored here at the Normandy American Cemetery.
This field of marble markers stands as a lasting reminder of the gift they gave to us all.
