Another shameless plug for the upcoming human rights conference in Seoul next Tuesday, July 25th, for those who currently are in Seoul!! This NYT article gives a good overview of the work TJWG: Transitional Justice Working Group 전환기 정의 워킹그룹, the host of the conference, has been doing the last two years. Definitely a worthwhile read if you are a ~human rights campaigner~ (I know you all are!)
Hi all!
If you happen to be in Seoul this month, don't pass up this amazing opportunity to learn about how IT and forensic science are being applied to advancing human rights agendas around the world. TJWG: Transitional Justice Working Group 전환기 정의 워킹그룹, the main host of this conference, is currently the only NGO dedicated to bringing transitional justice to North Korea. At the event TJWG will be presenting its mapping project, which has geographically profiled mass graves, execution sites, other government facilities related to the regime's human rights violations, using satellite maps and defectors' testimonies. You can RSVP via link in the original post, and if you have any questions shoot me a message!!

Did you know that North Korea has been exporting forced labor to more than 15 countries? These forcibly dispatched workers toil under slave-like conditions, overworking everyday for wages that are directly paid to the North Korean regime. This is yet another low-profile yet egregious human rights violation of North Korea that the world must recognize.
A very insightful article featuring a fascinating cultural aspect of the hermit kingdom: Pyongyang international Film Festival. To North Korea, cinema is not a form of "art", but just a platform through which they spread propaganda and promote their regime ideology. An interesting read!
A huge welcome to the new members of the PNKHR board this year:

Princeton for North Korean Human Rights (PNKHR) is hosting "Insight on NK" event on April 15. A South Korean organization named National Student's Council of NKHR will be visiting Ivy league campuses to hold photo exhibition and testimony & panel discussion where North Korean defector Jiyoung Lee, who escaped North Korea after serving as a female soldier, will join as main speaker to share her experience. Her testimony will largely focus on the social discrimination and women...'s rights in North Korea.
The human rights situation in North Korea has been grave for a long time with numerous reports of torture, inhumane treatment, executions, political prisoner camps, and enforced disappearances. "Insight on NK" will be a great opportunity to discuss both the severity of North Korean human rights situation in general and the regime's abuses on women's rights, an issue that has been given relatively less attention in the main discourse of the international community. With this event, PNKHR and National Student's Council of NKHR wish to generate more active voices on campus that call for the improvements of situations in North Korea.
