Hello everyone this is well with prager you today we are joined by doctor Mark mcguinness who is a social entrepreneur and founder and ceo of Red eye coffee in tallahassee are you doing today I'm great how are you I'm great I'm great so we're talking about before this actually went live and we're talking a lot about social capitalism and the free marketing Commerce actually drive social change could you tell us a little bit about that tell our audience how that actually works yeah absolutely I just in Red eyes example we have six coffee shops here in tallahassee and we actually interact with over 18000 people per month Plus all of our employees and just this idea that Commerce that you have an amazing amount of influence in the communities that you're in and one of the big things that I'm teaching for the state University and really try to use Red eye model is actually how how to use capitalism where the free market to influence and create a social change that you wanna see in the world so if you're having about Your value system like mine personally being a Christian just caring for the least of these so having a way to source our coffee in a way that is fair and equitable not because the government is told me I had to do it because of my value system and giving people who share those values of caring for the least of these or to you know care for what I would say god's creation by having a friendly army practices that I can use that Business and invite other people happy shared values into my business and this what I'm teaching it affects you that what these millennials that hey you know what you can have an amazing impact in your community in your world by through cops yeah I think I think it's funny that you bring up the role of government because you have so many people the people on the left and you know social Justice warriors socialist well believe that the government is gonna be the best mechanism for driving the economy and for driving social change can you tell us a little bit about why the government doesn't do that well that's why the free market is a much better tool for them oh Free market is much more nimble and the great thing is that the free market allows free people to put their values out without having to have a boat on it so there's amazing companies like newman's own that that said you know what we're going to give a hundred percent of our profits to charitable causes and manage those money to date Given over a half a billion dollars to local and global charities that's doing amazing work know you know some other great social entrepreneurs and it's kinda funny you probably don't believe what you know you may not believe it is politics but elon musk instead of becoming a politician and saying hey you know what I wanna make policy to make everybody drive electric cars instead he said you know what I'm gonna create an electric car that people want to dry and Politicians argue out and try to limit freedom used his freedom to create what he believes is you know a market solution to a social problem and the great thing is there's a huge wave of this and what is really cool is it really taps into Christian values that say you know what the instrument of change is one neighbor caring for another neighbor and not necessary The the the hand of government trying to reach it and solve all of society's problems yeah when you're talking about elon musk you know what the electric cars like you're saying it's a it's mutually beneficial for both parties when he makes an electric car that is you know cheap for people to buy and it's also good for the air and it's also good for the company right yeah so that's it it's good business yeah it's just good business so what would be do you think the best advice we have a lot of listeners a lot of watchers who are excuse me Getting out of College or maybe they didn't even graduate College like a lot of people and they want to become entrepreneurs in America used capitalism what are the the best tips you can give these a younger people to become entrepreneurs and be successful in the stage well what I teach the entrepreneurs that I've worked with it at Florida state University of Jim moran school of entrepreneurship is look at the change that you want to see in the world and create a market solution to that and it's very different It's like you can spend your time you know if you wanna do with public policy route that's a long arduous route that that you may or may not ever see any real change but if you care about you know water quality if you care about you know creating economic opportunity opportunity for those who have been traditionally like trapped in a cycle of poverty you can do that today you can create a company and say you know I To give people an opportunity to gain work experience and instead of saying you know what the government has to do it and I you know I can do it it's the ultimate social entrepreneurship is the ultimate expression of liberty of the individual or a group of individuals saying we're gonna come together and create a better community through cars yeah I was find a funny of all these people who wanna raise taxes and get the government more involved but instead of them sending their money to the federal government what they do is give them money to nonprofits because they know that these organizations handle things better like if they want to see change within like Homeless community or anything like that so it's it's funny how those things work out I'd like to thank you for coming on today really appreciate having you I love speaking with you today thank you so much for coming on yeah absolutely thank you for vitamin e no problem this is will wet and doctor Mark mcguinness and we'd like to say thank you from all the Craig you have a good one guys hey thank you
