How's it going everyone this is will with prager you today we're joined by American journalist tim pool how are you doing it pretty good so I just watched one of your latest videos that you did and you talked about it to soak in future you talked about free speech on social media basically it was scary for me to watch with how you presented that video for our audience could you outline a little bit of what you're talking about the video know with what we've seen with facebook you know there's they're stealing our data and I mean that literally you know facebook has tried to claim that they're only they're getting your permission but they do collect your data from other people as well we have Google collecting our data amazon But we also have the government we have the so essentially what I talked about in the video is that you have these old dystopian novels 1980 441 right in the world and not one of them is coming through all of them are are kind of coming dry I don't wanna be Super alarmist you know you said you were shocked or or something along those lines but you know we've got Mass medication in our country we've got corporate and government surveillance and spying and we've got the curtailing of free speech you know fan fact one where everyone's getting offended in burning books well that's happening too it's like all of this started Come true and I've been watching it over the past few years kind of just you know I I guess for me it kind of came to the point where I was like maybe we should say it's happening and then I don't know if I don't know how we bring people together to combat and sort of reinstate our rights and our freedoms and end the violation of our privacy but if it needs to happen yeah so censorship on you know on the Internet is basically the new book burning I like the way you like it I like that but people have known for you know years has been a known thing that facebook has been gathering our information you know Like an old story that people have known about so why do you think it's it's becoming so prevalent now why it's so important now honestly I think it's because it's tied to Cambridge analytical and know it paints the trump administration in a negative light so the politics are going to drive the narrative and if people think they have an opportunity to attack one side and you know it isn't that it's not always political is not always the Democrats Republicans or whatever group but when one tribe finds attack factor they'll take it Hour know once this Cambridge analytic stuff started coming out into the public and we learned that facebook is actually collecting your call logs and text logs that is that is that is new information this is what I think at least for me really freaked me out because here's the thing that people need to understand when you sign up for facebook facebook will ask you is it okay if we collect your data and the argument has been oh but you agreed to give your data but here's a people don't consider if I give you My phone number and then facebook asks you for my phone number I never gave him permission to collect that data and then you need to realize that facebook is collecting your call logs and your text message logs they know whenever I'm sending you messages so facebook has most people you know a large majority of the us on its platform may contract all of my phone calls simply by the other people that have agreed to give up my personal information so that's facebook taking third party data without their permission that's that's relatively Information why it was really scary when you start talking about law enforcement and you talked about basically you know it's a free speech issue if someone reports you for saying something that could be offensive like maybe even just like a prager u video that you know is considered offensive to someone and you put that on your on your facebook someone can report that and then the law enforcement might be able to get a warrant and be able to say now we can look through all of your data and I thought that was incredibly frightening cuz I know sort of things like that are happening a little bit Not so much in the us could you touch on that a little bit well in in the us several years ago there was this young kid who posted rap lyrics to his facebook page and it was construed as a threat he got arrested for it there was another incident recently got cleared up where a kid was I believe he was on some kind of video games yet where he sarcastically made a threat you know someone said something along the lines of you're not right in that and he was like oh yeah I'm not right in the head I'm gonna go you know do x y and z and people are making those kind of jokes and comments 24 seven and so think about this context right if someone posts something on social media that can be conservative threat they they will be arrested it's happen numerous times in the past and then if you are arrested the police can say look we wanna see you know he's claiming this person is claiming it was an out of context joke okay well to prove context we want to look into all of their facebook ad up to see what conversations he was happening when this cabin and that's a potential excuse but here's where it gets even worse and I made this point to my friends years ago when the auto five came out imagine if You were on a live stream talking to your friends while playing Grand theft auto and you said something like hey go steal that car get that gun and go do this and someone took the clip out of context and then report that to law enforcement they would say whoa here's a video someone talking about telling people to go and do this could you could do then be arrested because the police don't realize you're talking about a video game and then where does it go from there so one of the biggest problems happening right now with the automatic Ring and with the reporting of comments is there's no context anymore you know if if you have a conversation on facebook they'll slip that one quote from you and no one will know why you said it or what it means in in fact you could go on twitter and it's a tap in to some people I'm not gonna name anyone anybody specifically but there have been people who had quoted others in argument against those ideas whoever seeded suspensions advanced and you know another famous sense if it was someone on instagram posted a famous L G B t rights poem that used derogatory statements derogatory know slurs so instagram banned them Know that context is out the window and it gets really scary than when law enforcement steps into the picture people get arrested for it yeah and it sounds silly when you're talking about that Grant up to five thing that anyone could ever take out of context but it's really happening you know it's not at all but you know I think it's it's really difficult to see what we can go forward from this because you know you're talking about your video as well the new human trafficking build that got signed where do we go from you what are our next this is why I I always feel rather defeated when I was younger I was more of an activist and then I started to realize that I I don't have the answers I don't even know how to solve a lot of these problems I'm actually pretty good at solving problems but then when I look at things you know like the gun debate for instance you've got so many ill informed opinions and people want to enact certain policies but they don't actually do the research when you look at stuff with with with facebook when you look at what's happening with Google you have a combination of people don't really know if facebook is going for instance most like I said most people don't even know that facebook facebook is taking your information through other people and then they For new policies so you know false you mentioned false and that's probably the better example and that's the fighting online sex trafficking act I'm sure it sounds really great everyone says oh we absolutely wanna fight that but what happens it allows the government to do criminalize websites the people who run the sites hold them criminally liable if someone uses their website for sex trafficking or prostitution it was so what happens if someone goes on to twitter and start using code words like you know furniture whiskey referring to the women they're trafficking as whiskey or or whoever they're trafficking is twitter now Reliable that's the fear the answer is technical yes because even if they plot the platforms aren't aware it's happening they can still be held criminally liable so we've already seen craigslist removed the personal section we've seen reddit take down several secrets and then what happens when you go to the public debate with us you ask the average person they say it sounds like a really good bill of course we should fight online trafficking but you have to look beyond the obvious and this is something I refer to as I call it like a Chinese finger trap problem that the obvious Answer the simple solution to the problem isn't correct that someone says how do we stop you know trafficking online or make a bill that allows us to go after people hosting this but do you think beyond that what happens next so how do we solve this problem well you get people informed you you know people need to do more research how do you know how do you get people to actually want to read the news every day and look at multiple sources read different books and different studies you can you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink though I don't know what the solution really is yeah I think it was good when Talking about you know the gun debate that people have different solutions or they all want the same solution but they have different answers and then you are talking about that with the human trafficking bill you know how it the March for our lives and these people everyone there wants to stop gun violence and stuff school shootings and everything but the solutions that they have are just so they just don't work if it's like they've done no research about what's actually going on so I think you're doing a great job informing people what is actually going on I really appreciate what you're doing oh they get simple and I wanna thank you for coming on today this was great I really enjoyed talking about this I hope people watching are Turned off or two side about what's actually going on but it's good to be informed that's the first step figure it out yeah check out tim pool on youtube and everything else that he's doing on social media or thank you again for joining me thank you everybody for watching this is will with prager you and tim pool thank you thank you very much let's see
