What's going on guys? This is Will Witt with PragerU today. We are joined by Rebecca Friedrichs who has done a Prager U video with us about why good teachers want school choice? How are you doing today I'm doing great How are you I'm great It's a wonderful day here in California. You're not too far from us Beautiful here too Yeah okay. So I wanted to talk to you because I know you're basically an expert on this and we had the Supreme Court decision that had to deal with public unions. What is your take on this? What do you think about this it was five Decision, what do you What do you think Well, I'm thrilled I don't know if you're listeners know but I brought a case versus California Teachers Association that was heard by the US Supreme Court 2016 We were slated to win five to four and then Justice Scalia died and he lost his boat So this case has been a repeat of our case and as you can imagine I was on pins and needles and the case came down on my birthday, we won this face Happy birthday It's And it's just thrilling because the court not only freed all public sector employees across the country from pain forced Union fees so they can opt out and pay nothing but the court also gave us an additional gift We ask them if they would give us opt in instead of opt out and they did so now when you become a new employee you are not automatically in the Union and then you have to learn how to jump through hoops to get out They have to convince you to buy their business Opt in so that's huge It's a great day for Liberty That is huge. I mean it sounds like a a wonderful thing that's happening. What do you think is going to be next for America with this decision What are the next steps that are going to to happen? I mean the unions aren't just gonna take this sitting down Well, no the unions haven't been when my case was taken, they started something called the Fredrick's fix and they were going around to different state legislatures and creating work around for example here in California, they were able to pass a law where the Union Get 30 minutes with every new employee No one else gets to sit with those new employees and they get to convince them to join the Union and they do that on company time on the taxpayer's dime They also get updated information on employees at regularly throughout the year and no one else is allowed to have access to that information so they have those are just two of many fixes or work around that the unions have done to to deny people their constitutional rights. I think it's outrageous I think it's wrong that legislators would would help a wealthy special interest like unions to do something like that So we're gonna have those problems The other thing I predict is a lot of strikes I think the unions are going to particularly push for teachers strikes They have always used the the pretty faces of teachers and sweet little children to push their agenda and I believe they're gonna do a lot of that I hope people will stand with teachers because teachers are terrified and they don't like the teachers don't like to pick it Wanna teach so that's why I think the unions will respond and I hope that people will help us to fight back so that we can get complete liberty Yeah I mean the unions are are devious and we've known this. I mean we've seen what's what's happened in cities like Detroit with public unions. We've seen you know Chicago on the verge of going bankrupt because of a union's would you explain a little bit to the the viewers who are watching just about you know what public unions are are doing in America? What they're really doing to this country Yeah that The sad part is a lot of people really appreciate their local Association. They say, Hey my friends and I stand together. We need this United front That's true But the state and National Union are taking a large sum of the dues that you're paying and they are spending that money on divisive politics If you look at for example, the National Education Association, if you open up their resolutions document or look at any of their new business items for their Rep Assembly that they'll be This coming week when you read these documents, you discover that the unions are the ones behind all of these divisive angry rhetoric around immigration all of the divisive angry rhetoric around racial issues they're behind they're helping organize and advertising for all kinds of angry protests like black lives Matter and the women's March they're using the do's money people like myself who have completely different Who believe in kindness who believe in working together who believe in that we should not be divisive in this country They use our money to push a lot of division That's what they're really doing What I love your viewers to know too just for the teachers unions If I pay a thousand dollars a year in dues 650 -, six of that goes to the California Teachers Association and 180 - seven goes to the National level, so the local only keeps 150 Raising the state and National amounts recently, I haven't heard the new numbers that's just that's shocking cuz it's the local level that does all the work all the heavy lifting all the support So employees need to need to be aware that your money is being used by a very powerful special interest against your values in a lot of ways and it definitely behind you back Well, I think this is why one of the reasons why education has been doing so badly recently in these big major cities because like you're saying the money isn't allocated to The local levels it's going to the federal level You know why would people in federal government, the education system and when these unions know about what's happening in a small town you know the money should be going to the people in the small town were actually running this country or you know whatever size of a land and I mean this money from the unions it's like if I were to work for a company and I'm paying I'm a conservative and I'm paying Union dues They would then use that money to fund a candidate who I completely disagree with Like a liberal Democrat candidate who could very well be a socialist or anything like that I mean it's it's truly horrible What these unions are doing Yeah they do that every single day and they send teachers like myself. These lists in the magazines that I'm forced to fund They'll send us a list on how to vote and my teacher friends and I sit in the lounge and we laugh and we say this is my list on how not to vote almost all of us vote the exact opposite of how the Union tells us to vote yet they use our money to fund those To put boots on the ground they bully us to get on the phone and do phone banking for these people So folks should know that if you see something that says this is the teacher's candidate vote for this cuz the teachers support No. No. No. No no it's the teachers Union is not your your local teacher it's it's just shocking You know what they're doing with with our money and and we need to fight that Yeah Well, we're doing that you know with the Supreme Court decision, it seems like things are finally heading into the right direction because my sister she actually just became a teacher so for her now being able to opt out of the Union is Thing so specifics on teachers unions What do you see for Cuz I know you know a lot about this. What do you see for the future of of teachers now is it looking bright It's a good thing Oh yeah If we can help teachers to understand and the biggest problem with teachers is they're terrified The unions have controlled us in a culture of fear for a very long time about 50 years and so teachers are afraid to stand up. They're afraid to leave their Union. They really think they're gonna be harmed They think people won't pay them well they believe all these So if we can help teachers to understand look you can ditch the state National Unions. You can decertify that whole Web and then you can create your own local Association stand together Community stand with you that would be so much better. You pay maybe 200 bucks a year in dues Nothing goes to politics You start working with the parents Now we can fix our schools The reason our schools are falling apart across America If you look at the dates and look at the timing they started to fall apart When the unions entered the scene about the sixties they have degraded the teaching profession they have take removed our values from our schools and so Indiana in my opinion if we can help teachers to take back our profession not allow a labor Union to run our profession anymore and to harm our students Our schools could they could be fixed overnight and then the unions fight against school choice and a lot of teachers think school choice is bad because they've been told by the unions to think school choices, bad what's wrong with the parents having choice and when we have choice Means we have choice for teachers that means the competition that means we can improve morale There's so much hope so much hope if we can help teachers to see to quit funding this this political machine that has quite literally brought huge amounts of damage to our schools and to our students Yeah there's there's a lot of of damage is going on right now in education and one thing that we are talking about before before I started this was sexual education in schools. Could you tell us a little bit when you were talking to me about with that and you know is this is this a governor Mandated thing the sex ed in schools Yeah and I'm going to apologize in advance to your listeners I am going to share some information that's embarrassing for me to share but I feel morally obligated to tell you because your children are hearing it in the classroom particularly in California and other schools other States that have adopted comprehensive sexuality education so this or for short CSE CSEA has been around for Time it's being pushed through the UN They've been harming children in other countries by pushing CSE and it reared its ugly head in California through AB 320 - nine in 2015 and it became law on January first, 2016 AB 320 - nine in California. The law is called the California Healthy Youth Act Unfortunately there's not much healthy about it First, you think oh no big deal but it's the way they implement it So there are only five curriculums that have been approved and why is it that none of these curriculums are written by a true education publisher they're not written by Scholastic or Michelin or in Rhino whole none of these publishers. They're written by Planned Parenthood or some other no named a publishers. I've never seen in my life never heard of and here's the shocking Children are being taught about anal and oral sex anal and oral sex or being normalized to our children in our public schools and Amal two oral or excuse me oral two anal sex and they're telling the kids to use dental dams and all kinds of totally inappropriate information that in my opinion is child abuse and this is coming from Down from state laws and here's what teachers need to know teachers I'm really sorry to tell you that the California Teacher's Association and the National Education Association support this stuff research it They were part of a coalition that supported this and the PTA supported this and they work with the Planned Parenthood and ACLU and other groups to bring these things into our schools and to bring great harm to our children and I need to tell your list Teachers are terrified and disgusted when these lessons come into our schools and then were taught how to teach them and they're telling us to use these fully erect penis models and to set them out in front of our students in mixed company and this is harmful to children and to every teacher I know says I can't teach that I'll quit my job before I teach that I'll take a month off of school before I teach that but you know the Union Their friends made sure that written inside this law is if the teacher can't teach it or isn't qualified to teach it The experts will come in and teach it so then Planned Parenthood comes in and teaches the children so teachers you can escape Maybe you can leave what about the kids There's no opt in allowed It's only opt out So if the parents happen to see the letter and the letter doesn't tell them that they're learning this kind of stuff it seems innocuous the birds and the bees and so parents The opt out and our children are being damaged by this stuff and it's time for us to stand up as teachers and stand with parents and protect those kids It seems it seems like it's time to stand up as Americans. I mean to me. This seems like an issue that everyone can get behind It's not something that's that's a right or left. I mean anyone would be I think appalled and disgusted by what students are being taught. I mean as early as you know, I don't know how young these kids are by elementary school. You know being taught these sorts of things Yeah I would like to tell you I feel Learned about this from a parent who sent me an Email in 2013 This had entered her daughter's school up in Northern California She sent me a curriculum called Making Proud Choices written by Planned Parenthood and it had been it was her daughter's She, her daughter was 11 years old It was introduced in her fifth grade class The law States in California that you have to teach it in seventh grade and ninth grade but there are parts of the law where all Gender issues gender, confusion gender, dysphoria all this gender stuff the gender stuff you can't up down at all so that can show up in kindergarten So if your child's teacher is a teacher Union activist who wants to push this stuff on the children that teacher can read a book to your child's class without your permission all about all these these gender issues and I've taught kindergarten those little kids aren't ready to hear that kind of stuff they go home and they cry They're confused. I'm gonna a little girl team home. I'm gonna turn into a boy. Mommy. I don't know what to do These are precious little kids. We've only been on the planet for five years We need to protect them They are not sexual objects their children and our calling and our our job is to protect them as teachers and to be a second home to them when their parents you know are at work or when when they're in the classroom this is not a place to sexualized children and I stand against it 100 percent and I hope other teachers and Stand with us Yeah it shouldn't be a place for indoctrinating our children I mean the whole not being able to opt out thing. I think is one of the most serious issues I mean if I don't like a BuzzFeed video, I can choose not to watch them. I have the choice to not do that. So it's it's a scary thing and I hope everyone stands up and you know we fight against something like this It's horrible Yeah me too and you know the other thing they did was the in the law It's against the law for a school district to say to the parents Hey come on parents. We're gonna show you all this stuff so you can see what's in it and then you can decide if you wanna opt in so a school district can't Make the decision to let parents opt in that's against the law It's only helped out the teachers unions have been doing that to teachers for 50 years. You are only allowed to opt out and so they make all these tricky ways to make it impossible to opt out. They bully us if we opt out that's what they're doing to parents right now through this California Healthy Youth Act and I thank you for letting me share about it and we have we are building a coalition of parents and teachers and faith leaders and citizens and we've started an org Called for kids and country and we would love to have any of your listeners. Join us. They can find us at for kids and country dot org We'd love to have em and definitely it's it's an important fight to fight. So thank you so much for what you do Yeah Thank you and we appreciate you coming on today. This was wonderful. You know it's it's awesome information. We're really happy about this Supreme Court decision and you know I think there's going to be some changes in this country. So thank you so much for Becca freebie for coming on Thank you It's been great You too have a good one guys. Thank you for watching This is Will Witt for Prager U
