Then just editor in chief of daily wire your time yeah the whole service you Hey hey everyone to see lisa cross I'm here at the Parker new hq and just download road in an undisclosed secret location although it's not the bunker like the great one Mark levin were joined by daily wire Co founder and editor in chief Ben shapiro Also most of the bench piro show and in case you haven't see on his like twitter bio a New York times best selling author Ben thanks so much for being with us today hey look a little sister gone alicia good that's actually question number one do you miss having to share radio studio with me for three hours of Single day just really yeah it's okay we I just every morning I wake up at six o'clock and I think boy what I wouldn't do five o'clock and I had to sit in the studio for three hours boy is that the good ole days hey I occasionally brought Coffee beans so you can that's true any shower to like go here so congrats on being a new printer you presenter it's been a long time in the making all the staff here and all of our viewers are Super excited about your latest video of course Athlete named facts don't care about your feelings can you give everyone a quick overview of the just of your pregnancy video sure so the basic ideas that on campus fact no longer in vogue feelings are all that matters and there's been this this theory of intersection allergy Taking over on campuses that basically suggest that you deserve to be treated as though you're telling the truth is though you are saying something virtuous simply by dint of your identity so that his hierarchy goes something like this game black Hispanic woman In Asian jew White guy and if you are at the very bottom of the hierarchy then you can't argue with somebodies above you in the hierarchy because that would mean you're victimized in some way and the sort of mentality has has been propagated on campuses across America it's political debate And it means that people are now treated as though their aggressors when they're just expressing an opposing point of view so it's really dangerous it's it's a big problem on campus is why you are seeing riots on some of these campuses which have experienced personally and somebody's areas that's what the is about do you think what do you think is The greatest problem that colleges face today I think two things I mean the administrators who are just calling Lee and refuse to stand up to students who want to shut down free speech and then of course this kind of wild students who wanna shut down free speech on the basis that the defense them and that really isn't most of the students Most students on campus are sort of politically apathetic and even a lot of the folks who are liberal are not interested in shutting down debate like a lot of College Democrats are necessarily interested in that but there are these new hard left groups including people like empty for who violently at him to shut down Yeah any sort of opposing viewpoint if your peers on campus and that's very scary and an administration that won't stand up and spend your expel people who participate in violence and shut down free speech is an administration that is complicit in the rise of fascism on campus so I know free speech is an issue that you obviously Care about a lot of Kim strap solar can really stressful from the Wall Street Journal actually was our lunch keynote at our preview summit over the weekend and the people want access to her speech they should definitely check out dot com and they can sign up for and give a donation and receive it in Her entire speech was on the importance of free speech but the only thing that I think dennis didn't ask her about the really good q and a that they did that I wanna ask you about today is how do we then make College students understand what is it possible to teach them what the The moment is really all about and what Rick free speech is really all about yeah I do think it's possible to teach a lot of the students because a lot of young people have a very basic libertarian Street which says leave me alone and if you say to them listen we me alone applies to meet Stuff also don't like to go I think that a lot of people resonate to that there is a backlash building on campus and I don't wanna pretend like it's every campus that's something shut down speed your every student who is engaged in this I think it's a growing minority but I think that there is a backlash that is going to occur here because Is there still is a root level resistance to to this this sort of ideological fashions and that says that we can't even speak to each other especially when the people who are being protested it's not only people like miley annapolis and anne closer but it's people like me chrissie Summers are Jason riley or and Charles Marie eight eighty eight condoleezza rice you know better the boss when it's coming to the point where people who are mainstream conservatives who are not spending their days just throwing fire bombs are being banned from campus because of the violence I think even people on the mainstream left are beginning to say this is too much but you think it get so much more attention because most of the schools that are in that minority of you know having issues with free speech are the really powerful schools like those nuns love system or ivy leagues yeah I mean the into it depends on On the schools I think that they do get a little ties attention is begin 25 to 30 campuses year at a 25 it's 30 than 23 20 45 maybe six or seven year uh really bad it's not a great ratio but it's but you know still the vast majority of campuses are Places where I can speak without real fear of being hit in the face and it should make the headlines and I hope that it does make the headlines again I think the reaction from both sides pretty obvious mean even Bernie sanders and Elizabeth Warren nursing and culture should be allowed to speak in berkeley yeah and they tell you and we never get I see them come to her defense so um could you name a person that you don't think has seen the video yet that you would hope we'll watch this video maybe from the left side of the aisle what I mean I think that the people who need to see the video the people who don't watch it you know you shouldn't give up Is that you know the young turks rosie o'donnell Chelsea Clinton yeah I mean I do think there there's some that Howard dean you know I mean there there some people on the left to promulgating they're complicit in propagating this idea that that ideas spoken freely are danger Us and they need to be taught that this is a really dangerous notion that fascism doesn't start with Jack start smiley faces and we're gonna protect your feelings from other people who are bad and all you have to do is shut them down so yeah I think we have some of some of those people young I think of On that list but but yes I think that uh Howard dean is is top of mind just because he's actually come out and said that hate speech is not protected under the first member which is because basically what he saying there's anything Howard dean doesn't like protected under the first amendment which is crazy so one of Things that struck me the most when you talk about love to say you know that to them the first amendment protects the right to punch of Nazi but then they go run they call people like you and I not see so then if they happen upon us on the Street one day I guess that means that we're okay to punch and it was just a small snippet of The beginning of your video which people course can go watch for dot com right now and also find on our facebook page could you delve into that notion a little bit more though because I think it's something that we're seeing in society especially on social media yet that can't Primitives instead of actually having a constructive debate or an argument maybe with somebody on the other side of the aisle even a friend or family member you just automatically get labeled something and then its end of discussion I mean the rhetoric is so polarized at this point it has been for several years that the book that I wrote that was the New York times bestseller believe Is basically about this left is interested in shutting down debate by making basic character argument you're racist sexist bigot homophobe League with Hitler and therefore we should be able to hit you know they live in building up that that idea everyone's racist on the right for a quite a while there's another Story this week and which they attempted to proclaim that trump voters really voting for trump because they were born White but because they are racist and like that of course is not supported by any real social science data but the the idea that we're all racist and therefore it's okay because Okay to punch racist that two step is really really dangerous and it's the end of political discussion because the fact is you can't have a conversation with someone is calling you nothing and you can have a conversation with someone who has an honest political disagreement you can't argue with somebody who you believe to be evil because the proper solution Evil is not to have a reasons disagreement it's too just engage or two or invited and and I think the left by labeling everybody on the right evil has given itself the leeway to be able to justify violence against people on the right in your video for pregnant you you also Mention American privilege because obviously people on the left and social Justice where is like to talk about how you of course are the most privilege of them all because you're born in American White male um can you dump into American privilege a little bit so there are certain Images that people are born into being more in America is a massive privileges better be more American than being born in Zimbabwe and this is obvious to anyone on planet Earth which is why everybody wants to come here but that is because a lot of people in the United States and made very good decisions about how the United States ought to be based on freedom It that is a privilege that you experience as an American citizen other privileges include being born into a two parent household if your born into the House over the dad then the chances that you're going to succeed in life much better than if you're born into the the House of single mother not because I'm a mother Because a kidney to mom and dad and you need somebody or when you need someone taking care of the kids and you need both parents doing both in one parents and 11 the other so it's the these sort bottom line is I've said more broadly American privilege decision privilege Decisions people make in their lives have a natural and obvious consequences and that's important to mention because when people say privilege what they usually mean is something you can change about yourself that makes you more likely succeed um but all these things you're able to overcome so if you're Are not for America and you immigrate to America than now you are privy to American privilege if you're born a House where you had a single mom that's you are starting behind the question but there's no question you can also make decisions that allow you to prevail anyway there been a several presidents now Been born I who are basically the children of single mothers mean Ronald reagan's dad died when I was really young barack obama's father obviously is completely absent from the picture of his mom was largely absent as well and being born a bad situation bill Clinton was them Essentially single that was mother's the child single mother the the idea that if you're born in bad situations where you end up that is mistake and American privilege fights that because it says your free and your real privilege that you get to make decisions that have consequences that scary because means Visions have consequences but it's also empowering in the sense that now you get to live with the consequences of your decisions I think that's one of the reason like you said you talk about all the people that want to come here it's one of the things that makes America so great and likely for somebody to be able to pick themselves up by their bootstraps is that positive Decisions have positive consequences were unfortunately another state or other Nations or States like California the government is so restrictive and regulatory that it really is hard to succeed because the government is that boot on your neck Holding you back uh double intervention is definitely uh destroys the relationship between cause and effect that's terrible not only because it prevents good cause from the fact and also because if people don't learn the bad decisions result in bad things there Me to continue making bad decisions that result in bad things so how do we didn't teach those consequences on the broader scale than well and I think that the life sort of teachers the consequences but we have to not shield people from the consequences of their decisions meaning it and it's always good to care about people we always wanna take care People here in our community want to help people through hard times and give them a hand up but that's not the same thing as creating moral hazard where we're actually encouraging people to make bad decisions because we structure government benefits in particular way Thomas talk very eloquently about welfare essentially destroying black It because I used to be the 20 percent of kids in 19 60 in the black community were born out of wedlock and out access to 70 percent in the single greatest indicator of inter generational poverty single motherhood that's because the federal government stepped in and said look at all these poor women who have these children let's trying pay for that Um and in the process the incentive is a lot of men take off and a lot of women to do have babies out of wedlock and that's ended really poorly for a lot of kids who are being born to single mother household so what do you say to people like me that weren't born with your level of iq privilege money a even able to This is the fact is that I think that one of the beautiful things about america's we can look at people anywhere on the spectrum pretty much and we can see that they're people hard wildly successful you know all over the back of the people I think are stupid non talented are vastly more wealth Then I am in there people who aren't taller and more handsome and they can jump better and they can shoot a basketball better and we all have different types of talent that's what a free market is good ford's for allocating talents to the areas where their best position to thrive that's why I compared to the damage is such a wonderful thing the Is that even if I am better at even if I were to apply myself and become the world's greatest plumber that would be the best application in my particular skill set better for me to hire somebody who might have that's standard deviation blow mine and and hire them and pay them and that person will probably end up being rich And I will if they're able to provide goods and services to people by the way this under plumbers there's some plumbers are way smart and I'm too well my girl love that to because it's the you know a fellow preview presenter and a big fan of yours as well he talks about how America is actually lacking sending people this is Was because College is now become this and all be all which is another point of your videos that I really liked because you focus on the study that said there are three things that people can do that will kind of guarantee like a line of success and then probably depending on how hard they have Even more and number one which just finished high school it wasn't finish College it was your College high school College obviously can help decrease your your personal possibility of unemployment but finishing high school is really to keep you get out of poverty you have to finish high school because that's Most employers sort of the badge of your employable because of high school has been really water down because colleges in water down there's this business weird reverse effect we're used to be an actual accomplishments finish high school and then you know colleges for the top 20 percent and now it's Everyone is supposed to go to College which means everybody is supposed to graduate high school so it's actually had sort of a negative impact on what high school education is and you know that has an impact on whether it matters whether you graduate high school so if that's yeah that is one of the three preconditions and see that the brookings Institute If you if you don't live in permanent poverty in the United States do three things very talk about two of them don't have babies out of wedlock make sure you graduate high school and the third is get a job and the idea that it's impossible to get a job for people in United States is just not true or at as close to full employment as you can have a The normal unemployment rate is four point four percent most economic systems of dogs and just it's pretty close to full employment without you know government nationalization and distribution property so that's yeah that's the jobs are out there is just there's a lot of people who are Not willing to change skill sets or believe that they deserve more pay than they actually deserve based on their skill set um but if you do those three things then you're not going to live in poverty in United States in fact the number of people in the United States to living poverty by the global standard like to percent of people in the United Just live in poverty by the standard nine out of 10 Americans live Middle class or upper class lives according to global poverty standards another you know point of fiction that you point out that is just mind boggling to me that people haven't learned this and they just don't let it go Who is the disparity between how women are paid now mentor paid you point out that will single woman with no kids in a College education typically earns more than her male counterparts so why do we just consistently hear this I mean by drive around the Valley in law Downtown Los Angeles and I see billboards on the side of the one O one saying demand equal equal pay for equal work yeah I mean I think that the reason is you this is because it is always more convenient to blame somebody else for your problems and is to recognize that you actually have the freedom to make your own decisions and It's true for every group it's two for every person everyone wants to believe that society out a large is out to get them one of the things I say on campus a lot to the College kids is listen no one cares enough about you to stop you maybe you think there's some Grand conspiracy to prevent you from succeeding in life That's because you have too high opinion of yourself no one actually cares about you aside from your parents and maybe your girlfriend or boyfriend and that's it so go out and succeed and stop whining about and I think that has become unfortunately something that people don't like to hear And they prefer to hear this stories that House maximizing them so example I spoke down at the ranch high school and in down there San Diego is a couple years ago now and I was saying exactly this to the student body is largely impoverished over that um and a lot of them to anyone the Students in the crowd I remember this from the ass I mean this is what happen is that that we're talking about poverty and I said that easy if you're living in permanent poverty United States you don't have some sort of disability um then the chances are very good they're nothing with money and that if you learn good Terry skills then you'll be more likely to get in poverty and the principle actually walked down to the front of the room is right and I also said that women were not paid less than the wage gap is myth and the principal walk down to the front of the room and excuse the students said if you don't wanna be here because this is You can live well what I just say that was so offensive I don't understand and and it was defensive when he told me is a lot of these kids have parents who made a lot of mistakes we are talking about in their friends then if you tell them about that like I said they wouldn't be good for them to like Learn what is gonna be her this mates the don't make the mistakes again but no it's more important that we protect feelings that we actually protects kids futures and that's dangerous for not just this generation but future generations as well then uh one last thing we have some notes on twitter you've lots of fans of course People are just saying that they need you to slow down the speeches Smith so they can quote unquote absorb the the brilliance saying I get this a lot unfortunately that is not going to happen I've been trying it for while valuable seems to do Trick for a little while and it's also controlled substance so I would be very firmly not to have to drug myself up before I do these things yeah that's a good idea don't do it for the cause you know drugs kids come on just don't do it this could be your brain this is your brain on drugs huh you been thanks so much for your time we won't take up anymore of it everyone should definitely check out the bench pocket silver daily wire and of course on itunes follow them on twitter if you're
