This was my old dorm in college. Living there was a big part of what made the person I am today, and I feel sad about what MIT is doing to it. Incidentally, I would count as one of the people who didn't graduate in 4 years (part of their justification to justify shutting down the dorm) because I took a semester off my sophomore year. I was sorting through some shit. Like being queer, like sexism, like a depression that had started long before MIT. I graduated in 5 years, and my academic performance was greatly improved after taking that semester. For people who don't quite fit the mold, having that space was invaluable. It wan't perfect, but it was better than anywhere else I could find at the time. And, I'm sorry it won't be there for future MIT students.
