A great oasis and place to get away near the northern tip of Hawai'i Island. The owner and ranch manager are wonderful people and will make you feel at home. The grounds are beautiful. The farm animal...s are fun and the cottages are comfortable and inviting -- upscale rustic. Been there three times now and plan to go again. Well done, Puakea Ranch! See More

We had an amazing time at the ranch! We go to Hawaii every year and try to mix up the type of places we stay at. Staying at the ranch was the highlight of our trip. Our kids ran around and explored.... It was a wonderful experience! Christy, her son, and the ranch hand, Josh even babysat our two little ones so that we could take our oldest on a night manta snorkel. Our little ones had SUCH a good time with them learning the ins and outs. We never wanted to leave! Do yourself a favor and stay at this warm and magical place! See More

This is our last day here and we have been enjoying a tropical rain that makes us feel hesitant to go out. It is sooo nice here no matter what comes. We arrived to a flock of bright green crickets tha...t have since been ushered gently back outside and we have Papa, Mama & Shorty as resident geckos- they are so cute, but speedy to stay safe...lol! The all around screens in the windows let us be inside and outside at the same time...great place to unwind! See More

Quite different during a hurricane. Josh did bring out plenty of candles for use during the blackout. Pizza on the grill was different while eating by candlelight. Would have been nice to have cushio...ns hidden from the rain to use after the storm. It was a beautiful night and again morning. No dry place to sit and have coffee. Thank you Josh for arranging some extra riding for the girls. We absolutely loved our time at the ranch. Thanks See More

Puakea Ranch is a magical place with gorgeous scenery, breathtaking views and a relaxed, calming atmosphere. We held our romantic, rustic wedding at the ranch on March 12, 2016 and it was the perfect ...location! Our close family and friends stayed on the ranch with us in various bungalows on the property, while we stayed in Yoshis House. It was very special to have the ranch all to ourselves leading up to our special day, and to relax and unwind after. Each bungalow has its own unique charm, beautiful amenities and stunning bathhouse. Yoshis House was the perfect gathering place to entertain friends and family , BBQ and relax on the lanai. The white horses roaming the property are friendly and look so majestic with their hair blowing in the wind and surrounding scenery. The "kissing tree" was a stunning backdrop for our ceremony and the pavilion was a perfect covered outdoor reception location. Puakea Ranch is a photographers dream! You can't get much better than majestic white horses, ocean views, a gorgeous tree lined pathway, surrounding hills, charming bungalows and a tropical garden. On our wedding day we had a light misting of rain, peaking sunshine through the trees, several rainbows and a light breeze. It was truly magical! Thank you to Christie and the friendly and accommodating staff at Puakea Ranch. We can't wait to come back someday with our kids! ALOHA ♥ See More

We had our small wedding at Puakea Ranch on September 12th and it was perfect! The Ranch was so lovely. We stayed at James Cottage and my family stayed at Yoshis House. I loved waking up to geckos on... the windows and chickens waiting to greet you outside. The horses roaming the grounds are so friendly and come right to the fence if you call to them. Christie was so wonderful and recommended the best vendors for us to work with. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a little getaway to the island and I do plan on revisiting this magical place! See More

When I walked through the door of "Miles Away" I was home and never wanted to leave. The house and bathhouse are perfection and they have chickens, rabbits, a duck named Oreo, goats, sheep, and a pig... named Pili who was ready to deliver her babies. The only change I could possibly make is that "Angus" the gorgeous black lab mix would have given me a kiss! He's lovely but devoted to Josh. Best birthday ever - thank you Brett and Ron! See More

I will never forget our time on the Big Island and it is for a good reason. Our visit was MORE than we could ask for. Because we were able to have incredible beauty surrounds us, have countless acti...vities, AND were able to stay at a quaint, beautiful, peaceful, and romantic ranch.

We visited the big island from March 30 – April 5, 2015 for our honeymoon. Let’s just say, I did not want to leave at the end of the trip. Upon arrival, we were a little skeptical because we live on the east coast and are used to certain amenities in “hotels” and the hustle and bustle of life but I have to say that the peace and quiet you find at the ranch was exactly what we needed.

After a day and half we were OK with the sounds from the animals on the farm, the daily visits from the gecko (which I later named Jackson), and the separate bathhouse. We stayed in the James Cottage and the pictures are exactly what the cottage looks like, very calming and serene. The fauna that surrounds you is breathtaking, the BED is SOOO comfortable, and the shower is amazing too. We visited the local grocery store to load up on beer, wine, breakfast food, and snacks for the morning and evening. We went out for lunch and dinner and that seemed to work for us, so I recommend the same for others.

When visiting you HAVE to check out Bamboo Restaurant if you like smoothies and good burgers. The town of Hawi is a “sleepy town” so make sure you get there before 8pm. If you are a late night eater, just drive 30 minutes south and go to Kona or Hilo – there you will find LOTS to do and places that are open later. Another great food find was Merriman in Waimea (pricer side but seriously some of THE best food I’ve ever had). Other adventures we recommend include snorkeling with Fairwinds, visiting the volcano national park with Derek (Puakea Ranch Concierge) – HE WAS AMAZING!!!! Derek knew so many hidden treasures within the national park and along the way. I would HIGHLY recommend you reserve an adventure with Derek. You will be very happy.

Lastly, I would have to say that I am very happy that we chose to stay at the ranch for our honeymoon. While it was very different from anything we’ve done before, it was the BEST vacation I’ve ever been on and that is because we were secluded from the hustle and bustle and got the opportunity to really appreciate the beauty and wonder of Hawaii.

Come to this magical spot and soak up the energy. You will calm and restore, rejuvinate and renew. Every detail has been carefully tended to and the guests are primary. I'm here and it feels like paradise.
