- Trying to be a happy person is overrated. I mean, you set your goal first, right? That you want to be happy, and to be happy you need to achieve some specific goal. There is no guarantee that you will ever get to your goal. There is also a good amount of chance that the perception of happiness will change over time. What you think is going to make you happy today, will probably not going to be doing the same after just a few months. So yeah, I don't really care whether I am happy or not. Happiness is, at best, a byproduct of how you lead your life, not what you achieve.
Why not try to be interesting instead? There is literally thousands of ways how you can be interesting. From reading a book that challenges your intellect, to climbing a steep hill just to see the sunset, after doing something like this you are never the same person as before. Do stuff so that your story is a unique one, a story unlike any other. Do something that leaves your mark on the earth.
Make your moments count. That's what Ratul Minhaz tries to do all the time.
- "In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger – something better, pushing right back."

"Your work is not to drag the world kicking and screaming into a new awareness. Your job is to simply do your work.. sacredly, secretly, silently .. and those with "eyes to see and ears to hear' will respond."

"Face the facts. Then act on them. It's the only mantra I know, the only doctrine I have to offer you, and it's harder than you'd think, because I swear humans seem hardwired to do anything but. Face the facts. Don't pray, don't wish, don't buy into centuries-old dogma and dead rhetoric. Don't give in to your conditioning or your visions or your fucked-up sense of... whatever. FACE THE FACTS. THEN act."
- Quellcrist Falconer, a character from Richard K. Morgan's Takeshi Kovacs novels.
