Tell people what you think

I think this represents a movement to re-enfranchise American citizens in our foundering democracy! We all sense that the best in people is not being reflected in the way society is beng run in these... perilous times. The Committee for RCV is a group of citizens who are passionate about creating the conditions to overcome the corruption fostered by the two parties and their financiers, and to allow us to vote our true convictions. We did it!! It is refreshing to see democracy in action! We the people are using our veto power in a positive way to put this measure back on the ballot! It was an exciting time to make a difference... in politics. Now if we can motivate people to go out and vote it would be a win-win situation! This just proves that we can make a difference if we all work together. Peace to my neighbors! See More

I want my vote to be to count for 1 vote not three choices of who I like the most---2 choice----3'd choice; the third choice vote goes to the 2's choice which would give the 2'd runner up the votes to... win? Not my first choice? I'm not happy with this slight of hand voting! See More

Ranked Choice Voting (for Governor) is unconstitutional as advised UNANIMOUSLY by the courts. This “people’s veto” will waste money for something we already know will not pass muster. It will only c...omplicate the primary results and waste taxpayer money. Do NOT sign any petition to keep this BS going! See More

This is a group of dedicated volunteers working hard to help restore democracy by allowing choice in voting. As a voter I do not want to be bound by party.

Ranked choice can be real choice. It gives us the opportunity and the obligation to think more deeply.

If you take the time to understand it, ranked choice voting is certainly constitutional, and way more fair.

Being a lifelong Mainer, I can tell you that there aren't just two kinds of us. We span a spectrum so wide and often so weird that there's something insultingly reductive in the practice of forcing ou...r people, with all their eccentricities and unique perspectives, into one of two rigid, prefabricated boxes every few years.

With that in mind, it's a mystery why we've been ok with an electoral system that limits us in exactly that way. Maybe we, like the rest of the nation, figured that there was no better way to do things; that voting for people and policies you actually support is a rare luxury, and strictly voting against people you hate is the requisite norm. Little did we know, for centuries, political scientists have had several voting systems that would grant us a more representative democracy. For some reason those stinkin' nerds kept it all to themselves until now, but better late than never, eh?

Ranked choice voting is one of several steps towards a truly representative democracy, and it's a damned important one. Critics will tell you that you are too stupid to understand how RCV works, or that it's all a [insert political party] conspiracy to obfuscate a system that "works well enough already" (for them,) but don't be fooled. The reality is that our oversimplified and reductive system isn't robust enough to reflect the spectrum of people and ideas that this state has to offer. The system that is proposed in Q5 transcends, and frankly has nothing to do with, political partisanship. It is a mathematically superior model for having the voices of the people heard and more accurately represented, whatever those voices may be, whichever directions they may lean. If you got a problem with that, you might have a problem with democracy. But like I said, Maine's got some pretty interesting people.

Political science is a fascinating subject, and I encourage anyone who wants to know more about how this system, among others, will strengthen our democracy, to go out and learn! There's a much more vast and accessible wealth of knowledge out there than when I first took interest, so you just may get swept up into it. Why not head to youtube and start with CGP Grey's "The Alternative Vote Explained," a narrated infographic that breaks down the process of the Alternative vote? Happy learning!

RCV is one way of getting our democracy back and I have been thrilled that Maine voted it in. It is a threat to both the Democratic and Republican parties because they will actually have to start repr...esenting their constituents. This whole idea will spread across the country if Maine leads the way and proves it works. Thank you for your efforts. You are heroes in today's world. See More

I am so glad this committee is working so hard to make our state a fairer place to live in. Keep up the good work. May we gain the freedom to vote for who we truly want without having to worry about a...n unqualified person elected governor. See More

Voting should be a piece of cake without all the noise. "Money United," waves a wad of cash forcing our elected officials to dance at fund raisers leaving little time to read the bills they vote on.
...Politicians block the business of governing because they don't answer to the average voter. Anything that diminishes my vote is morally wrong.
If Ranked Choice Voting can chop the negativity and big spending and restore a fraction of peace to the voting process then the voters will come. I enjoy exercising my right to vote and love to see people vote. If RCV could do restore the integrity of the voting process then I am all for it!
I'll volunteer to help move the concept on. I like voting once! For me having a second choice is grand.

A significant benefit to RCV is in the fact when a person bends their vote by having to use it strategically, the political sphere loses the information as to what the populace really wants.
How many... voters really wanted Cutler vs Libby Mitchell vs Michaud 4 years later. As it is now, and as it would be under most alternatives, that information is lost. See More

Ranked Choice Voting is the stake through the heart that can finally bring an end to the two-party system. It gives voters a greater voice -- no longer will they have to abstain from voting for a thir...d party or independent candidate they really like for fear of splitting the vote. See More

A positive step for more democratic elections. Compared to the first-past-the-post method, Ranked Choice voting more accurately represents the consensus of the people. FPTP is archaic, and allows the ...potential for candidates to be elected who most people think is the worst candidate. See More

Ranked Choice Voting encourages candidates to broaden their appeal beyond their base. That in itself cuts back on the extreme partisanship we are experiencing today and the resulting dysfunction. RCV ...is undoubtedly the way to go! See More
