I was the Director of Pharmacy Student Services on the Pullman campus for 21 years. Prior to that time there was no designated office for Pharmacy Student Services, and Dr. Larry Simonsmeier was tryin...g to provide services to the students in the Dean's Office. I was selected to create a new office of Pharmacy Student Services. About a year after I had assumed the position, R. Keith Campbell was appointed Associate Dean. Keith and I worked closely together to serve our very deserving pharmacy students. Keith was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes in about the 8th grade if I remember correctly. I recall attending his 50th anniversary with Diabetes recognition ceremony in Pullman, Keith was a role model to our students and was a nationally and internationally recognized leader in Diabetes education. Keith was a very caring person who took a very personal interest our students, faculty and countless others whose lives he touched. Keith you will be deeply missed and leave a void in the profession of Pharmacy and the world of Diabetes education. Peace be with you my friend! See More

Our hearts are full of sorrow from the passing of our dear friend and colleague, R. Keith Campbell. Keith, 76, passed away on Saturday, November 11, while attending the Washington State Pharmacy Association Annual Meeting in Centralia, Washington. Words are hard to come by with such an unexpected loss.

There is not a corner of the CougaRx Nation and pharmacy community that Keith did not impact in some way through his teaching, mentorship, leadership, and friendship. Our thou...ghts and deepest condolences are with the Campbell family; your Cougar family grieves with you today.

Keith's family members have decided to wait until next spring to hold his Celebration of Life. We know it will be held in Spokane and we will provide details as soon as we have them.

In the meantime, if you would like to share stories, photos, memories, condolences, and well wishes, please feel free to post them here.

Sincerely,
Gary M. Pollack
Dean, College of Pharmacy

As part of the class of 1976, I was lucky to have Keith as a professor. He wasn't much older than we were, but he was wise beyond his years. He gave us practic...al lessons, with an emphasis on looking at everything from a patient's point of view. His lectures were compelling, and always tempered with a dose of humor. He may not have known it, but he made all of us better pharmacists. Condolences to the Campbell family and to everyone whose lives he touched. Sheila McCafferty Vanhoosen

Robert Day to Remembering Keith

Was there ever before and will there ever again be as considerate, gentle and funny a person as Keith? He was the dearest friend of hundreds, probably thousands, including me. Missing him doesn't cut it: there is a hole in my heart. Goodnight sweet prince....

Daren Wagner to Remembering Keith

I, like so many other students owe so much to Professor Campbell. I went to WSU with the idea of becoming a veterinarian and when Spring semester of my sophomo...re year came around and I needed to declare a major while I worked through the process of applying to vet school, my advisor suggested I might want to declare pre-Pharmacy as my major. I walked into Wegner Hall and was told I had two advisors I could talk to and Keith’s door was the first one I came to. He smiled when I told him what I was wanting to do, and then he proceeded to sweep me into the program that he loved so much. By the time he had taken me to meet the Dean and I don’t remember how many other people, he had me enrolled in what was then known as the 2nd professional year and I was on my way to becoming a pharmacist. I don’t know how different my life may have turned out had he not been in his office that day, but I do know I was extremely fortunate to have known him and he will be missed by all of us whose lives he touched.
