This morning, I gave a House floor speech paying tribute to the 53-year pastoral career of Dr. Jimmy Jackson, who for the last 40 years has served as pastor to Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville and is set to retire in early June. Under Dr. Jackson’s leadership, Whitesburg Baptist Church has grown to 7,100 members, making it one of the largest and most successful churches in the Tennessee Valley.

The Tennessee Valley’s already considerable aerospace engineering capabilities are growing. Boneal Aerospace recently set up shop in Huntsville where they will continue supporting national security, and I was pleased to attend their open house and ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday to mark the occasion.
Enjoyed visiting Supreme Beverage Company in Tanner where I toured the facility and afterward took questions from employees on federal policy issues, including the need to rein in government spending and the importance of protecting Second Amendment Rights. Thank you for hosting me today!
I hope you will join me on this #NationalDayOfPrayer in thanking God for the many blessings we enjoy as Americans and asking for God’s wisdom in our daily lives. As 1 John 5:14 teaches us, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”
Glad to join in the ribbon cutting for the new offices of Nobletech Solutions, a Huntsville firm founded in 2013 that offers software and mission planning services. It’s great to see small businesses grow, and I wish Nobletech continued success in the Tennessee Valley!
I enjoyed attending the Scottsboro Rotary club meeting today and talking to the group about the threat posed by America’s debt and deficits before taking questions. It was nice to catch up with friends. Thank you for your dedication to community involvement and service to others.
North American Surveillance Systems, a firm that specializes in integrating aircraft communications, navigation, and surveillance systems, is growing, and today they cut the ribbon on new offices in Huntsville. It seems like every other day a company locates in the Tennessee Valley to take advantage of the amenities and quality of life we enjoy. Thanks for inviting me to take part in today’s ceremony and welcome to Huntsville!
Martha and I had a great time reading “House Mouse, Senate Mouse” to students at Piney Chapel Elementary School in Athens. Martha, my mother, and my two daughters taught school so I have a deep appreciation for the important work of educators. Thanks for the warm welcome!
I appreciated the opportunity to address and visit with community minded folks at the Rogersville Kiwanis Club’s lunch meeting today. Thank you for having me!
Had a great visit to Rogers High School this morning in Florence where I answered questions from students about federal policy and what it is like to represent the Fifth District in Congress. It is wonderful to see young people engage in the democratic process and strive to learn so they can be informed citizens. Thanks for having me, and Go Pirates!
It is wonderful when businesses hire more people and grow their operations in the Tennessee Valley. GATR Technologies, a Huntsville firm that develops and produces portable satellite communications antenna, is expanding, and I appreciated the opportunity to take part in the ribbon cutting ceremony for their new facility this morning.
Space weather events are fascinating but they can have damaging effects on vital infrastructure at the Earth’s surface. In today’s Science, Space, and Technology hearing, I questioned witnesses, including Dr. Jim Spann who is the Heliophysics Chief Scientist at NASA and a Huntsville resident, on protecting our power grid from the risk posed by geomagnetic currents caused by space weather which can cause widespread power outages.

I had mixed emotions about returning to the baseball field this morning where a year ago the Republican baseball team was ambushed by a crazed gunman. Ultimately, it’s enjoyable be back on the ball field to compete and raise money for charitable causes, and it was good to be on CNN’s New Day to discuss this morning’s ball practice and touch on a couple issues before Congress.

This morning, I sent a letter to Senator Doug Jones urging him to vote “Yes” to confirm Mike Pompeo as secretary of state. With this vote, Senator Jones has the opportunity to keep his campaign promise to be bipartisan and put the interest of America above the partisan obstructionism that has plagued the Senate for years.
Martha and I enjoyed attending the Hartselle Chamber of Commerce’s annual dinner over the weekend where Governor Ivey gave the keynote address. Congratulations to the many businesses and individuals who received awards!
