- Perversely, the interest betrayed by voter suppression is easily lik...ened to that expressed by George Washington and Thomas Jefferson towards the slaves they owned. By the way, they’re regarded as among the best of this country’s Founding Fathers, and honored on Mount Rushmore. As I understand the situation, voter suppression does more than just violate the spirit of the Declaration of Independence …. after all, that document calls for government based on the consent of the governed … it even violates the rather recently adopted Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendments to the Constitution. By being denied access to the ballot box, in the eyes of the law, citizens become enslaved to the whims of whoever controls that access. The Thirteenth forbids involuntary servitude. By being denied access to the ballot box, in the eyes of the law, citizens are also denied equal protection under the law. The Fourteenth enjoins the all three branches of government to ensure such equal protection for all citizens. In truth, in this country, voter suppression should be regarded as despicable and indefensible. In truth, this country should be worthy of the greatness, displayed by the president, commemorated with two minutes of music and imagery. All that can be found at the other end of this hyperlink: https://youtu.be/U9Z52t0tK4U Here I must own to being a “paid liberal troll”, who’s yet to see a dime. Well, that part about the dime is no longer altogether true. The good people at AMAZON(dot)com have allocated me the princely sum of six dollars plus a little change. Somebody bought a copy of my do-it-yourself handbook for “brewing” one’s own personal colloidal silver. In case, anybody’s interested, information about that and my novellas ILINX and WAR DODGER is available at the other end of this hyperlink: http://www.amazon.com/-/e/B005SG4EOO … and one more thing, I do take pride in those novellas … and I do hope that first hyperlink entitles me to some slack with regard to the second .. … and one more thing … this anecdote comes out of an era, when Walter Reuther was pretty much labeled by main-stream media as a “big labor boss”. One fine day, he was being escorted around a newly built FORD plant by several corporate big-wigs. In time, they came to a department, where cars were being cranked out by huge robot machines. Grinning like the Cheshire cat, one of the big-wigs challenged Walter, indicating the machinery, “Let’s see you collect union dues from them!” … Impressed by what he was being shown or no, the big labor boss delivered the perfect squelch: “Let’s see you sell them cars!” … See More
