We are back home in Seattle and as I get back into real estate, I can’t help but think about the houses in Nangida village. Among the small traditional huts, one was equipped with a solar panel by a lady who charges people from the area 20 schillings to charge their phones. She uses these proceeds to help support the 7 families in her village, which is so inspiring to see!

The Ntumburi school was also very heartwarming and moving. The school had no floors or windows, but those teachers and kids had the hugest smiles on their faces! We raised over $500 for school books and were able to purchase 8 complete sets to help them out, as well as donated pads thanks to Amy Young and Guild Mortgage, t-shirts from Woodland Park Zoo, and other small school supplies.

Borana Lodge was one of the most amazing places I've ever experienced. The lodge is built into the mountainside and focuses on sustainable conservation of land and wildlife. It is run by the Dire family whom has been an integral part of shaping Kenya's history.

The lodge used to be a cattle ranch and in the 90's turned into Borana Conservancy. Soon thereafter the lodge was built and materials from all the fence posts were salvaged and used in the construction as well as local hardwood trees like olive. All the food is farm to table from their own Kabati farm and grown sustainably.

Everything from the food, to accommodations and staff were incredible. I feel very fortunate to have met and spent time with Eloise, Lou, Peter, and Lawrence. Thank you for setting such a great example. #boranaconservancy

We visited the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy Operations Headquarters and the head of security explained how their team of 150 Rangers on foot surveillanced on over 65,000 acres. They are able to track where every man is as well as where the Rhinos are.

It was great to see a plaque thanking donors, specifically Bowling For Rhinos - Seattle, who donates funds directly to help Lewa continue and succeed in their efforts for Rhino conservation.

Lewa works closely with the communities providing fresh water, safety within their villages and entrepreneurial opportunities. Because of this close relationship with locals they have been able to foster communication and intel which has aided in no poaching within the park for over 4 years.

Saw my first Rhino in Lewa Conservancy! Everything's been so surreal!
