Fun place to go with friends! I like that you can do karaoke and just sing anywhere in the bar you want and not have to feel too nervous about performing! Definitely helps with my performance anxiety ...for sure! Nice bartenders, and crowd. See More

The atmosphere is dead on Wild West. Maybe I went on a bad day, I waited ten minutes for a drink and no go. Within 5 a polite young man walked past me and offered to kindly shank me. After that a m...ade a bee line for the exit and will keep my Wild Western Experience to John Wayne movies :) See More

Alright, so it was the first bar my wife and I visited when we came into Old Town Sac, and ended up there on our last night before heading back home. Very friendly staff, and best of all, they had Kar...aoke. My wife loves the hell outta that. She shocked a lot of people when she sang, and the staff wasn't like a lot of other places we've been to where they control what is played. Needless to say, we will be returning when we visit again. Fun little place. Bartenders are nice. Loved the peanuts on the floor, casual environment. We went for karaoke and we're pleasantly surprised that there was no embarrassing stage. A wireless mic was p...assed around, and you could sit/stand/walk where you please. I would come again for sure. See More

Bizarre but fun place w/ decent beer selection (4/5 green stars also)
I ended up spending a couple of hours here waiting for my delayed Coast Starlight train. It was 11 PM on a Tuesday night and Old T...own was starting to look like a ghost town – River City was one of the few places still open. Weird place, to say the least: Originally a brothel, then a rowdy bar for newspaper men, then in 1871 it became the River City Saloon, and after a few incarnations it was remodeled in 2007 to look and feel a bit like the original from almost 150 years ago. Except that the bartender (her blond hair in high pigtails) plays a lot of hip-hop and 80’s music on the video jukebox. So my view was of the mannequin of a gold miner sitting at end of the bar, juxtaposed with lots of twerking on the screen (or Duran Duran on a yacht). The bartender was really cool and understood that I was pretty wiped out and just wanted to read my book and have a couple of beers. She kept up a conversation with a couple near me about the epically long Giants game on the other screen.
When I first walked in I didn’t know wtf I was walking on – it turned out that it was peanut shells. The bartender gave me a basket of roasted peanuts (in shells), which turned out to be delicious. I liked the beer selection – they stock a lot of fairly local beers from good breweries (Deschutes, Anchor, Track 7 in Sacramento). The Alaskan White and Karl Strauss Red Trolley Ale were both very good.

I’m also giving the River City Saloon 4/5 “green stars” for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons:

• As mentioned, most of the beers are fairly local: one is from Sacramento and most of the others are from CA.
• Several of the breweries are known for environmental record – for example, Alaskan, although the furthest away, was the first craft brewery to install a CO2 reclamation system. They also power their steam boiler with spent grain (cos there are no cows in Juneau to eat the grain). They also installed a Belgian mash filter press to save water.
• Deschutes (Oregon) is also well-known for sustainability and is involved in a lot of charitable and community projects. Same goes for Karl Strauss (San Diego) and Anchor (San Francisco).
• I didn’t eat, and the menu is a bit meat-heavy, but I liked the simple snack of roasted peanuts – no packaging waste! Peanuts, being legumes, are one of the most sustainable snacks you can find.

I wouldn’t say l hated it but l suppose if you enjoy sitting at the bar and singing karaoke to yourself it’s a great bar , but not for me. I don’t like the smell of cheap cooking fat when I’m drinking.

I visited with my Fiance before Blake Shelton last week. It's a cool place, plenty of bar stools, two pool tables. The tables themselves are pretty beat up but oh well. My fiance enjoyed being able to... drop peanut shells on the floor. If I were not pregnant, I am sure we could have had a bit more fun. We will come back when I'm baby-free. :) See More

We went as part of a Bar Crawl.. there were over 100 of us expecting drinks "immediately".. the bartender was fast, efficient and very nice! They were very accommodating to our group.. even letting ou...r DJ Chopsticks spin some tunes!! The beer was delicious and Cold and there were some pretty decent specials. Out of all the places we hit on the Crawl, River City was where we all chose to end the night! See More

I don't go out much anymore and ESPECIALLY not by myself but this is definitely my go to bar for an ice cold beer, a tasty margarita or just to ask the barmaid to surprise me. Every barmaid that I hav...e met here has made me feel welcome and comfortable when I show up unaccompanied. That's what makes this place Awesome!

I love the atmosphere. Not too noisy or crowded and the other patrons are always fun.

I highly recommend this spot if you wanna have fun, hear the conversation you're having with the person next to you and want to meet great people!

Best bar in Old Sacramento!

There for a dog training class and wanted to make the most of my $10 parking fee. It was nice to walk around and do a little shopping to support the small businesses. Decided to stop for a sandwich ...and River City Saloon had great prices. The sandwich was very tasty. The bartender was very nice. I enjoyed my sandwich while watching football. Doesn't get better than that! See More

I went there earlier today and had two shots of Jack that tasted like soda water from the Jack Daniels tap. I'm an avid Jack Daniels drinker and know the burn after a shot and did not have that after ...either shot. I moved here 10 months ago and have been to your store a handful of times and the first 3 or 4 times the tap wasn't working. ( didn't come for about the last 4 months because of work) and Thursday was my first time back and might be my last. I'm from virginia and love the atmosphere that allows you to throw your peanut shells on the ground. The main attraction that kept me coming back was the jack Daniels tap. And I had one... No wait two... Which both tasted like carbonated soda to which your bartender said that "you only get jack Daniels kegs." Yea I openly said the first didn't taste like jack and she said well "we only order Jack kegs." So I tried to close out to find out there's a $10 dollar minimum (you need to make that sign bigger that's hidden when you're at the middle of the bar)."

You guys aren't a bad bar. I do love the country atmosphere and the music videos. But, if you're not serving legit JD out of the tap, nor when a customer says something doesn't taste right you ignore it, that shows on the leadership. I want to come back, I've never had a bad experience until now (besides the JD keg being broke the first few times I was there in early 2015).
