My student activism group, Agents of Change, put together a five week bootcamp bringing STEM and the principles of mindfulness to a classroom in East San Jose. They make a powerful case for why we should be optimistic about our future.
Thank you to all of the students and parents and coordinators that made this program possible, thank you to my wife Ritu Ahuja Khanna for insisting we give our students a program to stay involved, and thank you to Tarun Galagali for your leadership and commemorating the program in this op-ed.

Why are there Green Berets on-the-ground working directly with Saudi Arabia at the Yemen border? Acknowledging that our involvement in this conflict is unauthorized doesn’t go far enough. We must take a real stand and stop supporting Saudi war crimes.
Before signing the Social Security Act in 1935, FDR said that the program would give a “measure of protection to the average citizen and to his family against the loss of a job and against poverty-ridden old age.” Who can live off $16,322 per year in 2018?
When even the families who are close to retirement age have only saved a median of $17,000, it’s clear that many Americans can't retire with dignity. We must expand Social Security while also strengthening the EITC so families are able to save for the future.
Republicans in Iowa have just passed a six-week abortion ban. This is just one more example of the GOP trying to take away a women’s right to control her own body. We’ve come way too far on reproductive rights to go back to the days before Roe vs. Wade.
Despite thousands of students across the country walking out, rallying, and marching for an end to gun violence, Congress had not even had a vote on meaningful legislation. Enough with these horrific tragedies. Any wonder why our approval is 8 percent?
I stand in solidarity with the service workers, nurses, and technical staff at the University of California who are going on strike this week. Every employee deserves equal pay for equal work. #UCStrike
Corporate tax breaks don’t lead to more investment and jobs. To create real economic growth, we need public investment in the workers who’ve faced decades of stagnant wages and the communities which have been left behind.
I’m so honored to receive this endorsement from The Mercury News. I will continue to be a strong voice for California’s 17th District. #CA17
Arizona teachers walked out and fought back, and won a 20 percent pay raise and a partial restoration of the $400 million in cuts to their public schools. Our most powerful weapon is people power. #RedForEd

If you’re having trouble keeping up with the rent payments, you aren’t alone. Rent increases have greatly outpaced household income since 2001. That's why affordable housing must be a priority in cities and communities across America.
DACA is NOT about “ignoring the laws enacted by Congress.” It’s about keeping our promise to the DREAMers who filled out forms, gave us their information, and paid a $500 fee to live and work in the U.S. This promise must be fulfilled. Clean #DreamActNow!
Ever since the “Orange Revolution” began under President Bush, the U.S. has been complicit in the rehabilitation and spread of Neo-Nazis in Ukraine. Enough is enough! Our government must stand up to the Azov Battalion and other fascist groups.
Puerto Rico’s recovery must benefit the people who live there, not the Wall Street investors that caused their debt crisis. This means investments in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and environmental cleanup, not more austerity.
California is a leader on climate action with some of the toughest tailpipe emissions standards in the country. Now the Trump administration wants to freeze the targets and revoke the state’s authority to enforce its own rules. What happened to federalism?
