I am a professor of Archaeology at the University of Florence specialised in Topography of Ancient R...ome. I have followed the development of Rome Reborn VR since its inception in the 1990s. Now that the first VR applications of the project are starting to appear in online stores, I am delighted to express my strong support for this unique initiative which combines archaeological accuracy with state-of-the-art technology. The goal is to make the core monuments of the Eternal City easily comprehensible even to non-experts, and to bring ancient Rome into the homes and schools of people wherever they may be. A must have for students and history lovers and teachers. My son and I saw it and are very happy and... overwhelmed to experience and got in touch to the ancient glory and past of Rome. I just completed my PhD in Anthropology with a focus on ancient Maya archaeology. I am experienced i...n the methodologies used in digital archaeological research and I am also involved in museum education and the creation of interactive learning experiences and exhibits. I have been following with great interest the development of Rome Reborn VR, and have discussed it in publications. I recently tried out the first app on the Roman Forum. I think it is an excellent way of making art history and archaeology come to life for people. It is difficult to create truly engaging and interactive experiences for art and archaeology museums, but the Rome Reborn team has accomplished it through the use of virtual reality. Viewers have the agency and freedom to explore different parts of the forum while choosing to take the abridged tour, by reading the brief descriptions written on the digital tablet included in the VR experience, or the longer tour, by listening to the audio guide. Rome Reborn VR will be a powerful tool in both a museum setting and in a classroom setting, and I recommend trying it out. Mehr anzeigen
