2018 Auxin and Respirator Fit Test Certification

On March 2, the Rowan County Center will be hosting Auxin training from 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. and a Respiratory fit test and medical clearance from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. (by appointment only). Please read the information below regarding these two events.

We will be holding Auxin training in Rowan County at the Agriculture Center (2727 Old Concord Rd, Salisbury, NC, 28146). The meeting will be held on March 2 at 9:00 a.m. EPA recently rev...ised labels for dicamba products registered for application to Xtend soybean and XtendFlex cotton. One of many new requirements is mandatory training for all applicators prior to use in 2018 (even if trained in 2017). There will be recertification pesticide credit in categories N, O, D, and X. If you plan to attend, please RSVP by calling 704-216-8970.

Secondly, as of January 1, 2017, the NCDA&CS now requires Worker Protection Standards (WPS) stating that a respirator fit test and medical clearance card are necessary to mix, load, handle, or apply any pesticide that requires the use of a respirator as prescribed by the pesticide label. Pesticide inspections by the NCDA&CS will require documentation from anyone who mixes, handles, or applies pesticides requiring a respirator on the product label and to have an ANNUAL medical clearance and respirator fit test regardless of whether the person is a licensed applicator. This means even employees, supervised workers, and families that utilize these pesticides will need to maintain this documentation. I do not have a full list of products that require this, but I do know products include: Paraquat (Gramoxone), Lorsban, and Acephate. The fit test will also be on March 2 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. here at the Agriculture Center. Please follow the steps listed below to register for the respirator fit test and medical clearance.

Step 1: Call and make an appointment with the Rowan County Center (704-216-8970).

Step 2: Fill out the attached OSHA Medical Evaluation Questionnaire (MEQ attached). Please fax the form to 1-866-996-8105 by February 25 if you plan to attend.

Step 3: Bring you respirator with you to your appointment, along with the $45 fee. Payment can be made in the form of check, cash, and credit/debit card.

If you have any questions or need more information, please call the Rowan County Center at 704-216-8970.
