Rowdy Calendar Feb 19th-Feb 26th
Spring training has started for MLB and the first games start Friday! I'm sure that some of the games will be on TV. The Olympics are still going on through this Sunday. Some how I manage to watch them when curling and/or figure skating is broadcasting.
WVU is still on the roller coaster, beating TCU and losing to Kansas and ranked #21. Purdue has started to follow WVU's lead and lost 3 in a row before winning against Penn State. Purdue is ra...nked 9th.
I have the scoop on the Gastropub closing. Their last day is April 20th. Apparently, the landlord raised the rent by $1000 so they are closing when the current lease is up. There is a rumor that someone working there is looking for a place to open up a bar/restaurant after the Gastropub shuts down.
Now onto this week's schedule:
Tues Feb 20th - WVU plays at Baylor starting at 7 pm. Rowdys will gather at Adelphia's to watch the game.
Weds Feb 21st - UC plays UV @ Wise at home. Women's game starts at 5:30 and men's at 7:30.
Thurs Feb 22nd - (HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GEORGE W) - trivia will be at Tricky Fish starting around 7 pm. Purdue plays at Illinois at 7 pm on FS1. We should be able to watch the game at tricky. Last week it was ugly with Wisconsin beating Purdue by 4 points.
Friday - Feb 23rd - Spring training games start. Check your local listings for times.
Sat - Feb 24th - UC plays WV State at home starting at 2 pm for the ladies game and 4 pm for the men's game. This is the last home game for UC before the Mountain East tournament. WVU plays at home against Iowa State at 6 pm. Rowdys will gather at Adelphia's to watch the game. Talk to Barb and she can save you a seat.
Sun Feb 25th - Closing ceremony starts at 6 am (Korea is 14 hours ahead of us). That's pretty early for me. Purdue plays Minnesota at home starting at 4 pm. This is the last game for Purdue before the Big Ten tournament.
Mon Feb 26th - WVU plays #6 Texas Tech at home starting at 9 pm. Pretty late for me.
The Mountain East tournament starts Weds Feb 28th at noon and ends on Sun March 4th, last game is at 3:30 pm. All games are at the Charleston Civic Center. Talk to Toastman if you're interested in going to any of the games.
Big Ten Tournament starts Weds Feb 28th and ends on Sun March 4th. All games are at Madison Square Gardens in NYC (what???, seems like it could be closer).
WVU has 2 more games next week, Monday and Sat, Mar 3rd. The Big 12 tournament starts on Weds March 7th and ends on Sat March 10th.
Marshall starts playing baseball at Power Park on March 16th.
Home opener for the Power is on April 5th, a short 6 1/2 weeks away!
NEWS ALERT!!!!! Before we get started on the Rowdy activities for this week it has come to our attention that the B&D Gastropub (formerly known as Murad's) is closing in April. The food guy in the paper said the end of Feb but the waitress last week said April. In any case, we need to start going there on a regular basis. We could even do pitcher reports there. Several rumors as to why they are closing but I think it has to do with the owner of the building not taking care of... maintenance problems (heating for example) and their lease is up.
Winter Olympics are going on and have been fun to watch. WVU basketball is on a roller coaster ride and depending on what day it is depends on what team shows up. They had a couple wins and a loss and are now ranked #20. Purdue had a couple of losses this week to ranked teams, each by 3 pts or less and are now ranked #6.
Now for this week's schedule. Spring training has started for some teams and the rest start tomorrow. Baseball season is upon us!
Thurs. Feb 15th - trivia at tricky fish starting around 7:30.I dont think Toastman will be there but the rest of the regulars should be. Purdue plays at Wisconsin at 7 PM. It is on ESPN so we should be able to watch it at Tricky Fish.
Sat Feb 17th - WVU plays at #13 Kansas at 6 pm. Most Rowdys will be at Adelphia's or Hooter's.
Sun Feb 18th - Purdue plays Penn State at 8 pm. That's really going to cut into my Olympics watching.
WVU plays at Baylor on Tues, Feb 20th at7 pm
UCls next home game is against W@Wise on Weds, Feb 2lst at 5:30 and 7:30. That means that Trivia will be on Thurs, Feb 22nd.
Spring Uaining games start on Fri Feb 23rd.
Marshall starts playing baseball at Power Park in March. That's it for now! See vou soon!

Charleston Baseball Memories
Trevor Hoffman - 2018 Incoming Member of the National ***Baseball Hall of Fame*** -
Hoffman played shortstop and third base for the Reds' Single-A affiliate Charleston Wheelers. In his first 103 games, he only batted .212 with 23 runs batted in. Not showing much batting potential, Hoffman was converted to pitcher in 1991 at the suggestion of Wheelers manager Jim Lett, who also grew tired of Hoffman overthrowing first base. Hoffman threw 95 miles per hour (153 km/h) and recorded a 2.90 ERA with 169 strikeouts in 142 2⁄3 minor league innings over two seasons while alternating between relieving and starting at Single-A Cedar Rapids, Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Nashville.
WV Power’s opener is not until April 5th. But if you would like to see some baseball, WVU is playing in the 2018 Brittain Resorts Baseball at the Beach at Coastal Carolina in February. Their schedule is as follows: 2/23/18 (Fri) @ 11:00 VCU; 2/24/18 (Sat) @ 11:00 Illinois; 2/24/18 (Sat) @ 6:00 VCU; and 2/25/18 (Sun) @ 2:30 Coastal Carolina.
