Way back at the end of last year, a Denton Holme resident contacted me about the mess in the Little Caldew river. I contacted Eden Rivers Trust who agreed to run a river clean up. Postponed twice through snow, we finally managed to get there this morning!

It was a fantastic event, with 16 of us turning up to help. I'm not sure whether to be pleased or sad at the amount of stuff we collected..... It looks superb now.

Special thanks to Eden Rivers Trust for their organisation, Peter Tyson's for allowing us to use their car park and to everyone that turned up to help.

Bit of an issue in Denton Holme about litter after the Bank Holiday weekend. Been down a couple of times since then to keep an eye on it and picked up three handfuls of litter today - cigarette ends are a big offender! But otherwise it's looking great down here in the sunshine (honest! Photos don't do it justice 😉)

If there is an issue with litter, it's worth contacting the council or your local councillor. We can only do something about it if we know about it.

To all my friends who turned out night after night, day after day, over the last few months to campaign for Labour, I just wanted to say a big thank you!

Thursday brought mixed emotions. Great to see some fantastic new Labour councillors, some of my current colleagues re-elected, increase in votes across the city and everyone turning out to knock on doors on polling day. Gutted not to take Yewdale and Botcherby.

It was a hard slog, this campaign, with the cold seeming never... ending. The camaraderie and commitment every day, though, made it worthwhile. Likewise, the absolute certainty that our work in the Labour group is to make Carlisle the best place it can be and to defend the city from the brutality of Tory cuts helped us turn out and have these conversations with voters.

I hope you have all managed to have some quiet time and enjoy the sunshine this weekend because there is still work to do! But to work, we must be healthy, so make sure you rest, see friends and family, eat well, for shortly we will regroup and begin the fight again.

Love to you all xxx

Been out in Botcherby bright and early this morning reminding people to vote. Fantastic candidate in Lisa Brown. Good luck to her and all the other Labour candidates standing today. #forthemanynotthefew

This weekend's campaigning 🙂 All votes will be so important here in Carlisle. Please come out and vote this Thursday!

This week has been a busy week. Tuesday night was full council when we put forward a motion asking our MPs, and our councils, to push for action on our flood defences. 3 winters on and still no sign of the £25m we were promised.

Today was recording the Sunday Politics Show - out on Sunday, obviously! - discussing crime figures, farming post Brexit and the local elections.

The middle bits have involved lots of drafting, rewriting and learning. Safe to say I know the Conservati...ve policy document on farming pretty well by now 😀

But anyway, I am looking forward to getting out and about, getting some fresh air, seeing people, campaigning and leafleting tomorrow and Sunday for the last weekend before the local elections. Got an MP joining us both days. Come and join us! Xxx

Louis Campbell to We Support Jeremy Corbyn

For those who haven't seen Labour's latest party broadcast, watch below!

Tomorrow I will be out campaigning across Carlisle with many other activists and fantastic candidates for the coming local elections.

I am more excited about these elections than any other local election I have been involved in. To be fair, the term 'local elections' doesn't usually inspire but for us in Carlisle this year is really important.

Many people don't understand how their local council works. It's particularly awkward when you have a two-tier authority like we do ...here in Cumbria. But this is the current situation. The Labour group hold 26 out of 52 seats. Obviously, if we want to take decisions, set budgets, we need to win the vote.

I am so pleased with the work that my Labour colleagues on the council have done. Our priorities have been to protect the most vulnerable, to support ordinary people, to spend public money wisely, all the time striving for an ambitious, cultural, attractive, healthy city that makes us proud.

Since 2010, local government has experienced cuts of 40%. Labour councils are the last line of defence against Tory austerity. We are out campaigning across the city daily because we believe passionately that we offer the best deal for taking Carlisle forward. We believe that politics should be compassionate and serve the people it represents.

If you believe in the things that we do, if you want to feel hope for the future, vote Labour on May 3rd.

Met with these great women today to work on our plans for Denton Holme's 'Great Get Together'. Fantastic ideas about bringing people and communities together.

The Tories have taken police off our streets and crime is going up. Labour would put Bobbies back on the beat.
