We are in the middle of a pandemic that has serious ramifications for our kids. We are not authorized to send our children to school because the amount of cases in our community is too high. This is a serious issue because many children will not have the home support that is necessary to ensure that they get the education that they deserve. We need to recognize that this is our generation's World War II and start treating this as a serious issue. We need to work together ...as our grandparents/great grandparents did to get the virus under control. I get it, not doing what I and my family want to do is not fun, but it is a small price to pay for our kids to be able to get the education they deserve. Kanawha County is still in the orange and we cannot get our kids back in school until we get back into yellow. We can do it. Cabell County is still in yellow and they have a major university in their community. Their numbers are actually going down. Please wear masks, do not travel to hot spots, do not congregate and social distance as much as possible. Encourage your friends and family to do the same. Our kids deserve better and we all can make a difference collectively if we work together to get this under control.

KCS Update

We wanted to provide you all with an update on our COVID-19 plan after some changes and updates from the Governor.

First, per the Governor, schools w...ill be out through at least March 27th. That will be the point when we re-evaluate and share additional information.

Second, students will have work and resources available through Schoology, Remind, Class Dojo or other platforms by Thursday, March 19 at the latest date.

Third, we have updated our feeding program. Some bagged meals will be available at every KCS school. In addition, bagged meals will be delivered at our normal bus stops along each school bus run. Buses will leave each feeder high school at 10:30 a.m. and start their normal run. All you need to do is wait at your child’s bus stop for a meal to be delivered. To get an approximate time for drop off on Monday, you can call your bus garage or the main transportation office for bus times, or it will be 4 hours later than the elementary bus stop times. Bus garage phone numbers and the main transportation number have been added to our COVID-19 website article.

Fourth, technology plans will remain the same as in our original plan, which can be found on the website or social media.

Lastly, per the State Department of Education, adult programs at Garnet Career Center, Ben Franklin Career Center and Carver Career Center will remain operating. This is so that those students do not lose the ability to attain their certifications and have to wait until another class. Health and safety measures will be enacted to keep social distancing.

We know that there are additional questions and we will be putting together a Q&A with answers to additional questions beginning tomorrow. This will be provided on our website and social media. Parents can call their school or Central Office with questions.
